On the great tracks from albums that suck front, his first album has 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' and 'I Feel For You', both of which are pretty great. I do reckon 'Sign of the Times' is the most consistent, even if it is stylistically all over the place. I can think of lots of songs on there that I really like without much thought... and there are few clangers. 'Ballad of Dorothy Parker' is so good. Heard a really weird chop up of it by digital house guy Maurice Fulton. Odd. Actually, that 'Hits' triple CD with the b-sides on the 3rd disc is a good way to go, I reckon. Or super-cheap second hand LPs, if you have a turntable. :) If you like what you hear, you can go back one step further to Parliament, Stevie Wonder and Sly & The Family Stone. Beyond any "rock snob" cred these artists hold, they are (some) really obvious influences of Prince's. Then go forward two steps to SuperCollider's 'Head On'. :) Michael - http://www.ampcast.com/jetjaguar --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
