DAVID MOONEY : David Mooney - Expanding - 7"
The last installment of the Expanding singles series is something a bit
different. David's side features seven small tracks drawn from The
Rhythmiconic sections - ranging from the arcade swooshes of 'Albert's
bicycle', through the synthetic degradations of 'Wave Motion Machine', to
the dissembled campanology of 'Lift Service...' Fabulous, obsessed with
malfunctions and ultimately bizarre, it inspires two tremendous remixes from
Expanding's inhouse studio maestros Benge and Stendec. Benge generates his
remix from a full range of sounds derived from the Rhythmiconic sections,
beginning with a pad of synth, against which he builds a plaintive piano
motif and assembles an iconic, beautiful web of sounds. Stendec touch on the
more rhythmic aspects of Garbanzo poem, deriving a wonderful hook with
almost gamelan like overtones, set against a wicked, buggin rhythm. For
remixes read original and engaging creations, complete your sets and await
some exciting developments from Benge and his crew in weeks to come.
