I think the idea behind the expression "homophobia" is that a person is
insecure in their own sexuality, and are irrationally fearful and hateful
of anything that forces them to question their own sexuality. I think
it's an over-used pop psychology cliche that is off target as often as
it's on.
Personally, I get excited and happy whenever a brilliant musician or actor
is up-front about being gay. Especially when they don't have anything to
do with the more ridiculous, flamboyant, aspect of gay culture. Like, I'd
rather see someone like Al Jourgenson come out and say, "Yeah I'm gay, so
fucking what?" than someone like DJ Tiesto, who nobody gives a poo about
anyways.
