I'm sure you'll find strong opinions about this just like anything, but I'd really say you can't go wrong with anything they've done. (Red Medicine, End Hits and In On The Kill Taker are some of my favorites) I know their music has changed some and evolved over the years as any good band should, but I absolutely love it all, and for many of the same reasons. Their stuff is ground breaking still today and is full of uniqueness and style that in my opinion is unmatched anywhere. They also still stand as one of the best live bands I've ever seen. period! -matT nashville.tn --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

should make a clarification here... I wouldn't blame Ian/Fugazi for letting it happen. As far as I know you can cover a song without permission as long as you pay the publishing on it....although I could be wrong, as it's not my area of expertise...Sample clearance I can tell you about, cover versions I can not. Has anyone ever listened to the DirecTV music programming? Flip to the 'Sounds of the Season' section and you'll find a mix of electronic/ambient/dub tracks. I've got a sneaking suspicion that Jason Bentley (L.A. DJ) or one of his minions is behind it; a lot of the tracks come from Quango compilations. I wouldn't categorize Bentley as an IDM DJ but there are some good tracks mixed in with the occasional Faithless type stuff. I heard some BJ Cole/Luke Vibert, Jah Wobble, and Goldfrapp. I have a soft spot for Goldfrapp; we spend lots of time together in Wisconsin last year. Just for those L.A. folks who occasionally hear Bentley (whose musical choices I think have, okay I won't use the word deteriorate, moved in a certain direction over time) my guess is that he wants to stay with the accessible 'electronica'. I guess I have a soft spot for him too; before I knew of IDM I'd record his shows. Sorry for the prolonged L.A. moment but there was a KCRW DJ called Bruno Guez who outclassed Bentley on musical choice but was really erratic schedule-wise. I know something happened to him but does anyone have details on this? Oh, and I'm stuck after surgery on a torn achilles (basketball) so if anyone has any ideas of ways I could constructively trainspot (books etc... ) then email me at: sophtwarez@hotmail.com. Or, hey, you could donate a track to a person who would never review it.
