Having imbibed much more than my fair share of gin(more than I would've
liked to really, but that's my business) at that show, I feel the original
message that sparked some of this thread may be my fault(I was hugging a post to
keep from falling over at some point, was it me?) . So, I'm sorry if what I've
done has bothered some people but I enjoy being intoxicated on more things than
just liquor on occasion.
Which brings me to the point (I'm not really that polite): I've been
wondering recently how prevalent is recreational drug use, drinking including,
amongst IDMers. I know that a lot of people who don't "get it", do "get it" on
certain substances and sometimes it just sounds really good while under the
influence. Some substances have been known to promote creative
explorations into the (hate to use the term but) avant-garde. Some of this music
and some of you come from the rave scene, which most people consider synonymous
with drug use(not saying it is just stating a fact).
I'm not asking for an IDM-list poll of who does and doesn't like getting
fucked up, I'm wondering mainly is there any connection between drugs and all
this great music, as there was with say psychedelia. Or are most of these
musicians and listeners prudes(not meant in a bad way).

parntheseseses))

hey, s r--- don't knock the man around... it would be interesting to see
which country or countries you have some knowledge of... while of course
i can agree that the self-destructive habits of oneself or others are
never the nicest thing to have to look at, it doesn't help to have the
perspective that only a deluded morality can give (this is not a
personal attack -- i just think it is a problem we all have to deal
with).
have you thought overmuch about the reasons people do this or the things
they seek when they go to parties, celebrate, drink, etc.? someone who
is drunken is not just a waste to be looked down one's nose at, if they
are worth anything they should still be interesting... what are you like
when you are not entirely in your wits, even if this is not caused by
alcohol, etc.? there is the historical perspective of celebration... the
dyonisian aspect... although of course there is always the possibilty of
one way or another not wanting to or not being able to become part of
that celebration... which is ok of course... etc. ...
