normally we dont engage in this sort of ninjitsu activity but what planet are you from? people have been doing drugs from time in conjunction with music & other rituals....native american sweat lodge ceremonies, back to whirling dervish, yogis, up thru prohibition, the sixties: how many straight San Francisco doctors would admit to taking acid @ Grateful Dead gigs 30 years ago? duh. oh, yeah, plus some people are naturally hi, some arent (could get philosophical about karma, etc. but way OT)

Having imbibed much more than my fair share of gin(more than I would've liked to really, but that's my business) at that show, I feel the original message that sparked some of this thread may be my fault(I was hugging a post to keep from falling over at some point, was it me?) . So, I'm sorry if what I've done has bothered some people but I enjoy being intoxicated on more things than just liquor on occasion. Which brings me to the point (I'm not really that polite): I've been wondering recently how prevalent is recreational drug use, drinking including, amongst IDMers. I know that a lot of people who don't "get it", do "get it" on certain substances and sometimes it just sounds really good while under the influence. Some substances have been known to promote creative explorations into the (hate to use the term but) avant-garde. Some of this music and some of you come from the rave scene, which most people consider synonymous with drug use(not saying it is just stating a fact). I'm not asking for an IDM-list poll of who does and doesn't like getting fucked up, I'm wondering mainly is there any connection between drugs and all this great music, as there was with say psychedelia. Or are most of these musicians and listeners prudes(not meant in a bad way). -peter(maybe I shouldn't use my real name, ya NARCs ;P (god, do I love parntheseseses)) ----- Original Message ----- From: excm. prin. fuminaro konoye To: s r Cc: idm@hyperreal.org Sent: 2/3/02 5:45:41 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Amon Tobin, Knitting Factory, stupid smokers/drinkers hey, s r--- don't knock the man around... it would be interesting to see which country or countries you have some knowledge of... while of course i can agree that the self-destructive habits of oneself or others are never the nicest thing to have to look at, it doesn't help to have the perspective that only a deluded morality can give (this is not a personal attack -- i just think it is a problem we all have to deal with). have you thought overmuch about the reasons people do this or the things they seek when they go to parties, celebrate, drink, etc.? someone who is drunken is not just a waste to be looked down one's nose at, if they are worth anything they should still be interesting... what are you like when you are not entirely in your wits, even if this is not caused by alcohol, etc.? there is the historical perspective of celebration... the dyonisian aspect... although of course there is always the possibilty of one way or another not wanting to or not being able to become part of that celebration... which is ok of course... etc. ...

well, i must say when i was high or drunk- i liked mostly any music except smth really bad, like bad pop, like some , i dont know the names, sort of z100.... so, i decided not to judge music when i am not sober, and , beeing sober for 99.99% of the time for the last 5 years, meaning i can have a one- or two puffs once in two month- i developed a nice understanding and interaction with music i listen to I listen to music since late 70s. Around mid 80s i developed this kind of listening- i put on the record and listen to the first track for a minute. If i dont like it- i will not listen to it no more It works with experience, really, there is so much shit out there on cd or vynil, you have to descriminate! But i shoul admit that when i was young and stupid i needed pot to get into punk rock or may be punk rock is so dumb you have to be high to apreciate it....:)) now i think it wasnt worth at all to waste my time and health on it But i still like the protest message in it! Ok, i am confused! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! black dog's "spanners" on lsd changed my life:) id probrably be content with "whatever" now if it wasnt for that, one night, after a shitty rave. after that, it never sounded the same. instead, my priorities in life are all fucked up. oh well, things could be worse. it could have been crack and i could be dead (such a boring yet extremely addictive drug)(i wish morphine was still available over the counter, that stuff is greeeat) brian _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
