makesnd cassette, the first CD on mille plateaux, is a lot more sterile sounding. it is more looped and mechanical sounding, too... and tends to plod along, each track running into the next as the elements of the loops change slightly. occasionally it resets with an ambient track to break the rhythm maybe 2 times over the course of the disc, but overall it's pretty minimal and lacks variety. this was the first "clicks + cuts" sort of album i heard, before that comp had actually been released actually, so at the time it caught me by surprise and i thought it was pretty special, although it's been eclipsed by many other albums in a similar vein that i prefer a lot more. you might try some of the farben releases (or jan jelinek's self-named released on ~scape) if you are looking for something with a bit more groove under the surface... his track on c+c 1 is a good starting point for his work, although i found his 12" that i have to be less upbeat. (he also records mildly post-rock tinged glitch stuff as gramm) bye
