This April 4th through 6th, in Iowa City Iowa, the University of Iowa is hosting the 2002 SEAMUS Conference. SEAMUS is the Society for Electro Acoustic Music in the United States. This is the premiere annual gathering of Academic electronic musicians, composers and performers. You can read up on SEAMUS at http://http://seamus2002.music.uiowa.edu/ The conference combines presentation of academic papers with twelve concerts of electro-acoustic music. An incredibly wide variety of music will be presented, from tape pieces to live performances for musicians and electronics. The director of the conference, Lawrence Fritts, has asked me to set up some 'underground' electronic music events for the evenings of April 5th and 6th. These will take place in local clubs, and run roughly from 10PM-2AM. Paid SEAMUS attendees will be admitted free. The idea behind these shows is to encourage some communication and sharing of ideas between academic and non-academic musicians, as well as the imbibing of fine alcoholic beverages. In other words a rare opportunity to meet people from all over who like their music just as weird as you do. The cost of attending the conference is $40(member)/$55(non-member) for students and $100(member)/$115(non-member) The terms for performers are these: 1. No travel provided. 2. All performers will divide the door equally for pay. I would anticipate, but not guarantee, at least $100 per performer. 3. Every effort will be made to find you a private home to stay in. 4. You will be able to attend conference sessions and performances without paying the conference fee. No one, including me, will be getting rich on this, but it will be interesting, educational and fun. Those interested in performing need to contact me as soon as possible. There will be 8 to 10 performance slots available. Priority will be given to performers with a recognized body of work -- i.e. I have heard of you, you've release records and CDs, etc. Those I'm not familiar with will need to submit a recording of a representative live set, as quickly as possible. There is no committee judging submissions -- I will choose the performers as fairly as I can. I'm hoping to present music that exemplifies the underground side of experimental electronic music. In other words I'm looking for something beyond straight-up dance music. Ambient, Noise, IDM, Downtempo, Experimental Techno, Improvisation, are all fair game. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
