January: Shows of interest to Portland, OR regional listmembers. If you have questions, email paul@archigramophone.com. Shows hosted by omco & friends at The Blackbird (www.theblackbird.org) this Friday, Jan 11th, at The Blackbird, Portland Solenoid (Portland- Outward Music Company, Emanate, Hiao Hiao Hiao) Randy Jones (Seattle- ORAC label) Catch-22 (Portland- Outward Music Company) Solenoid is one of Portland's guru's of "freaky dance" music since at least 1989. He's had a busy year culminating in the release of three very great full-lengths. hopefully for this live set he'll be doing some live improvisational electro mixed with digital DJing and possibly a guest tag team on tabletop gear from Portland compatriot, Strategy. Randy Jones is ORAC label curator. Himself a software programmer, a member of electronic ensemble Polar, and frequent contributor to Seattle's SIL2K performance series (R.I.P.), Randy's set is sure to be powerbookariffic and I've been told he uses a custom programmed tactex-type touch interface live. a must see for those interested in the furthest fringes of performance-oriented software synthesis. Catch-22 is one of Omco's resident DJs, often veering towards electro as well and hopefully doing one of his sets where he mixes sequences and digital media with conventional records- his first DJ set in many months! and sure to be off the hook. Thursday, Jan 31st, at The Blackbird, Portland Nice Nice (Portland- Archigramophone Recordings) One Human Minute (Portland) Supersprite (Portland- Audio Dregs) Nice Nice are a guitar-drums duo - multiple lo-fi loop players and live electronic percussion mix with the conventional instruments in a fully melted (nonjuxtapositional) way. undescribable and not to be missed, this is the kickoff for their jaunt down the west coast. One Human Minute - a studio project making their live debut for the first time after nearly 2 years of incubation. members of Momeraths/Strategy, this duo makes deconstructionist rock music using bitcrunched guitars and basses and a laptop. imagine improvisational punk smudged into a melodic, impressionistic granular wash with only the occasional surfancing of the submerged clangs. Supersprite have a full-length forthcoming on Portland's up-and-coming Audio Dregs label- take a serving of 90s underground ambient, update it with a sense of abbreviation in the sounds and a sometimes-gnarly naturalism and that's a good bet as to what Supersprite is up to lately. (Solenoid audio available online at www.outwardmusic.com) (Nice Nice and One Human Minute audio available at www.archigramophone.com) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

any idea whether that schematic tour (richard devine, phoenecia, and otto von schirach) is going to be making it to portland? i'll certainly head up to seattle for it, but i'm hesitant to buy my tickets a month in advance if they're just going to end up coming to a closer venue. anyway, if anyone knows anything... just let me know. -b. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
