my first exposure to Autechre was buying a used copy of ep7 for my buddy who makes computer music (almost 4 years ago). neither of us had ever heard them, and i remember listening to the disc for the first time while driving through upstate ny countryside... "what the hell is this?!" we both said, unfortunately in disdain, for we cast aside the beloved AE, and only about a year ago did i pick it back up and realize what it was. then i got Confield and was (eventually) floored and transformed, so i ask you... WHAT ARE THE BOMB BACKLIST AUTECHRE RELEASES?!?! i'm really looking for more beat-heavy stuff, maybe a little less washy (i've got plenty of that in Confield, i need no more). i think my favorite AE track thus far is the first one on Peel2 (that shit has a horrifically infectious groove)... so, where can i find more like this? ChiasticSlide reissue? Tri Repetae? thank you obi-won-kenobi(s) nat a new home for indie rock and electronics http://www.littlefurythings.com _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If you like the ep7 autechre, just buy everything except Amber and Incunalabula ( whatever ) because theses 2 releases are really more "musical", for me, the best ever release of Autechre is the "Tri Repetae+AnvilVapre+Garbage" double CD pack, because it has the best of both worlds. --- Maximilien Lincourt Max At Toon Boom Dot Com Codito Ergo Sum

That's what I tought too, but now I'm not sure. I find Tri Repetae++ a bit too formulaic sometimes. I think my favourite autechre release is ciclichisuite, this has the best of both world ;) But if you like autechre, get every release, they are all good. As said, incunabula and amber are more musical. I've had Tri Repetae for a while, so didn't see much point in buying Tri Repetae++. However, I was finally able to pick up Anvil Vapre and Garbage from Warp last week. I think they're both good, but not great. Seem a little too Autechre-by-numbers to me. On a more postive note I found Envane in Fopp yesterday and EP7 in Selectadisc, both of which are impressive -- www.mmt.cx ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maximilien Lincourt" <max@toonboom.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 3:11 PM Subject: RE: [idm] old AE?

since we're all plugging our favourite ae albums, i might as well put in a mention for lp5 as it's their most consistently creative and varied body of work [or 'album' as most people would say !]. it marks the introduction of the digital cut-ups which later dominate ep7 and confield, but here meld perfectly with their earlier distinctive analogue sounds. every track seems to break boundaries and open up a huge new horizon of musical possibilities; in fact i think it's not too much of an overstatement to say that practically each track could spawn a whole new idm sub-genre. it also contains one of the most majestic moments i've heard in any piece of music, halfway through rae .. i won't give anything away, except that the first time i heard it [and this isn't a metaphor - it actually happened], the sun shone through the clouds and a rainbow appeared ! on top of that there's the impossible contortions of fold4,wrap5 which have to be heard to be believed, and the sheer mania of under BOAC, which on balance is probably my all-time favourite ae track. and i still haven't mentioned drane2 .. so although it has plenty of competition, lp5 is without doubt the standout album and the one to go for. ---------- thank goodness for all of the things you are not ! thank goodness you're not something someone forgot, and left all alone in some punkerish place like a rusty tin coathanger hanging in space dr seuss, 'did i ever tell you how lucky you are ? I'm a little bit late on it but hope you allow me to put my cents in the thread as I'm the long stading fan of theirs. I have absolutely all their CDs and would like to note that from my point of view their musical progress can be divided into the following parts: 1. Early years of melody driven electronica:(Incunabula, Amber, Basscadet, Anti) with glimps of what to expect in their next phase to be heard on brilliant Amber album. 2. Harsh industrial electronica with that alien feeling behind: (Tri Repetae, Garbage, Anvil Vapre, Peel Session #1, Gescom's Keynell, Envane, Chiastic Slide) best of them imho. 2.5 A perfect mix of old industrial sounds with their future sounds of eccentric electronic chaos like yet mathematically calculated musical structures was shown on the Chichli Suite. 3. Sounds of robots trying to understand what music fro humans - the best description imho to name their next phase of experimentations with sounds, melodies, structures etc. (LP5, EP7, Peel Sessions 2, Confield) Frankly speaking I'm more fond of their 2 phase which went along lines of my imagination and perception of alien music. Yet with Confield they finally justified the way they've been pursuing and I'm again their best fan. Maybe they stand together with Freeform on my top but I'm not sure. 8) Alien __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
