I won't say anything about the musiscality, originality and freshness of electroniSka... ;) Joking aside, it's *ALL* "stereotyped idm stuff" to my ears. That's why I keep listening! And if I had done a top ten, it would have probably looked something like this: Autechre - Confield Lali Puna - Scary World Theory MD - Between Gaps Proem - Among Others Jake Mandell - Love Songs For Machines Four Tet - Pause Matmos - A Chance To Cut... Machine Drum - Now You Know cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD New Order - Get Ready Those are the things that stick in my mind, musically, from 2001. New Order isn't particularly inventive, original, or fresh, but it's just so damn neat! I also quite like Fischerspooner, but having only just gotten into them, I'm not familiar enough to put it in my 2001 list. Solvent's album was nice but I still prefer his second. The Matmos album, I agree it's pretty inventive and neat, and I do really like it, but for some reason I just can't listen to it more than once a month or so. It's too, er, trendy sounding, somehow. To be honest, seeing them live in NYC with all the chic trend followers in the room kind of tainted my perception of them. The Mouse on Mars album got me into them, as I didn't like them before, but ultimately it struck me the same as the new Plaid album - a few really interesting tracks early on, and then it petered out as the album went on. I also liked Twerk's "Now I'm Rendered Useless" on first listen, but it immediately became repetitive. I'd love to hear one or two tracks mixed in with other material in a club setting, but a whole album kind of grates on me. Same with Weatherall's Hypercity mix of Force Tracks stuff. I love that little mutation of the dance gene, but only in small doses, or mixed in with other stuff, for some reason. I've been meaning to revisit Vladislav Delay, Fennesz, and Dntel, as they are so popular around here, but I haven't had time yet. I liked Chessie - Overnight, but I liked 310's Dirty Rope album better... not that that makes any sense. Finally (aren't you glad! but then I didn't force you to read this, so screw you), everybody's favorite MTV hopeful Marumari: um, why do we care about MTV? Whether or not their little self-contained vacuum-sealed universe ever collapses in on itself, it has little relevence to my day-to-day life. Anyway, Supermogadon was nice and gentle and catchy in places, but a little too elastic and soupy for my tastes. I still enjoy that Marumari sound, though!

Fair enough, although I personally think that's a horrible reason to dislike something. I don't have audiophile ears, so I can't hear what's "wrong", but I've heard this before so I'll just accept that Merck and other very indie labels must have bad mixing or something. Whatever, that's not what it's about for me. 90 END ramble ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
