Hello hope that you feel fine and happy to know that a new version of the BiP_HOp webzine is now online and in english. It consists of interviews with label-owners that we respect. The game was to ask almost the same questions to each of them and enjoy their differences or common points. Featured are : Erstwhile, Morr, Staalplaat, Sprawl Imprint, 12K, Falt... We are definitely satisfied and proud to deliver two new full-length : BiP-HOp Generation v. 2 [bleep 02] March/2001 20 exclusive tracks, 70+ mns of music and comes in a 6 page Digipack including a booklet w/ infos on each musician AROVANE / BERNARD FLEISCHMANN / WARMDESK / KOHN / WANG INC. / LAURENT PERNICE TENNIS : europe on horseback [bleep 03] Aril/2001 TENNIS is Benge and Si-{cut}.db. An on-going London based collaboration exploring digital and electro-acoustic sounds and rhythms combined with 21st century audio software. "Europe on Horseback", and shows a progression of the "Tennis sound" into a harder more digital/glitchy but accesible rhythmic realm, with dub and german influences to the fore. Stay tuned for the release of the Spaceheads/Max Eastley collaboration in May. SPACEHADS and MAX EASTLEY : the time of the ancient astronaut. Universal head expander vol.1[bleep 04] From the first sound a different and special magic was evoked, captured in one afternoon on this recording. Haunting trumpet melodies over soft drones and textures sets the mood. This slowly mutates to a world of high opera and tipsy beats that then cascades with a metallic pounding. The music takes on cinematic proportions as the terrain unfolds. Interstellar landscapes are revealed. This is improvisation as a battle between the done and the possible. MAX EASTLEY plays The Arc. A nine foot long mono chord. One string stretched over wood and played with a bow or glass rods. The pitch is changed by flexing the wood. The string can also be shortened with clips. It is then fed into electronic effects. The SPACEHEADS is a duo mixing trumpet and electronics with drums and percussion. Plaintive trumpet calls are looped across pulsing beats that propel us into sheets of metal crashing and vibrating through tiny pick ups cranked to the full and then spun into electronic webs. Hello Hope that you are prepairing for a nice x-mas party Over here, I woke up this morning and outside all was white, under the snow. Which is damn beautiful and very rare in the South of France. Other than that, it’s been a long time since I last communicated… In the meantime, BiP_HOp has just been honoured by the BBC and was invited to join their nice “Global top 10” series, you can check it out : http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/newroom/toptens/biphop.shtml Talking about BBC, Tennis were invited by the prestigious Mixing It radio show and one can hear/see their live session there http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/world/mixingit.shtml We are among the lucky labels to have their records on sale @ Force Inc./ Mille Plateaux online/mailorder catalog. There we stand aside such luminaries as 12K, Quatermass, Mego, Mitek, Carpark, Alien8, Tigerbeat6, Raster:Noton and some other chosen ones… http://shop.force-inc.com/jump.php4?entry=fim SI-CUT.DB and CRAY appeared on the BiP_Hop Generation v.4 and we are pleased that the collaboration extended to the present release of their new album… si-cut.db "enthusiast" [bleep 07] "Enthusiast" is the 4th si-cut.db album, and another move forward for Benford's sound, following on naturally from the groundwork done by Tennis, his project with Ben Edwards (Benge). A major proportion of the sounds are samples of woodwork noises, different timbers, turning processes, shavings, planings, splintered pieces, contact mikes on veneered surfaces, acoustic instruments such as piano, fused with microsounds to create a rhythmic template between digital glitch and organic sources. Literally, different timbers and timbres; the grain on the wood becoming almost the grooves of a vinyl record, spiralling forward. The music speaks for itself. cray "undo" [bleep 09] Enhanced video CD Ross Healy has been an active member of the Melbourne music scene since 1988 and has released recordings with projects such as Eden, Amnesia, 56k and This Digital Ocean. Cray’s first release was the “Comment” mini-cd for Irish label, Fallt. Influenced by both contemporary digital technology and early sound pioneers like Pierre Henry, David Tudor and Tod Dockstader , Healy has abandoned traditional instruments and structures, opting for a more open ended creative methodology that allows for accidents and contrast. “Everything is meant to be in the music , if an accident happens I leave it in. There is no right and wrong in sound" "music being almost a painting, that you could stare at in a gallery or the pictures and shapes (synaesthesia) of your mind”. Etched sound worlds; carved sine waves, slices of twisted time, with a faint memory of melody. We are finalising the design of the upcoming albums by Andrew Duke and Twine. Twine have been chosen to be featured on the upcoming Wiretapper compilation, due out in the January issue of the prestigious english mag. More infos there : http://www.twinesound.com Our new series documenting the process of reciprocicality is almost born, expect [reciprocess : +/vs.] vol. 1 to be ready by early 2002. It will offer the collective works of Bovine Life and/or/vs. Komet (Frank Bretschneider)… A reversible Digipack whose design was invented by Christopher Murphy, operator of Fällt records. Not only a collaboration between sound-designers [reciprocess : +/vs.] is also the joint venture of Fällt and BiP_HOp. BiP_HOp Generation [v.5] is now being mastered and will give you over 70 minutes of delight from Accelera Deck (USA) / Andrew Duke (Canada) / Mikael Stavostrand (Sweden) / StudioTonne (UK) / Rechenzentrum (Germany) / D'Iberville (Fr) Spaceheads have completed their new full-length, a perfect mix of Jazz, electro and amazing compositions. Merge will release it in Northern america and BiP_Hop will be in charge of the rest of the world. We have welcomed some new sound-assemblers in the family, who are completing albums for us : Wang Inc. From Bologna, already noticed on BiP_Hop Generation v.2, and made famous by his 12” on Sonig/Thrill Jockey. And KPT Michigan, yes one half of Schneider TM, whose noises enlightened our BiP_Hop Generation v.1. Be sure to check KPT Michigan’s first LP on (KraaK)3 and be prepaired for the next one. Hello Hope you are well, been a while so I hope you enjoyed the HOT summer. The last six months have been quite busy working on the releases of Angel, Scanner & Tonne, Tonne’s soundtoys, Generation v.6 and double CD of Tennis. Also quite active setting up shows locally. Highlight when bringing a micro-Mutek festival for the first time in France, or Sutekh + Johan Skugge in front of 800 people. We are pleased to announce our new releases : [reciprocess : +/vs.] vol. 2 ::: Stephan Mathieu & Si-cut.db [bleep 22] In association with Fällt, we are pleased to present the second volume of our series document collaborative works between sound-designers. For some time, Stephan Mathieu "has been trying to reduce his compositional approach to a minimum by accepting sounds the way they are." Alike his contemporaries Cray, Pimmon, Taylor Deupree, or Komet he has managed to create his own and particular sound. Si-cut.db is composing groovy minimal Dub. Douglas Benford has been releasing music under this alias for years, he is also the second player in Tennis, and founder of Sprawl. Next albums to appear on Highpointlowlife and Fallt soon... Si-cut.db is now on two compilations from the german label BackGround, and the brand new Warpmart sampler. Novel 23 : architectural effects [bleep 23] Roman Belousov is an electronic musician from Moscow, Russia. Novel 23 started making music back in1997 and released several albums, split EPs, remixes, and tracks on numerous compilations. His sound originates in a combination of computer audio technologies and old soviet synthesizers, electro rhythms and romantic melodies, which evoke new visions for curious listeners. "Architectural Effects" was created between 2000-2002. Ten tracks combines into one conception which is dedicated to architecture. Each track reflects element of architecture, constructions or styles. Musically it is pure melodic, blissful electronica. Douglas Benford and I will be playing a few gigs in Uk in the Fall, feel free to come say hello… 10.9.03-14.9.03 :::: BiP_HOp uk tour: w. si-cut.db & dj/ip@bip-hop.com 09. 09. 03 dj/ip@bip-hop.com mixes at BBC Radio One + special program about the label and interview conducted by Paul Thomas… Stay tuned. Almost 80 minutes of exclusive music by : TAYLOR DEUPREE (us), inhabits New-York and founded 12K in 1997 : a center for minimal, digital music. In collaboration with Richard Chartier, Deupree started the LINE sublabel to further question the ideas of minimalism. Deupree has issued music on Sub Rosa, Mille Plateaux, 12K... www.12k.com EMISOR (ar), After years performing in the underground arts world in Buenos Aires, Leonardo Ramella started his Emisor project in 1998. Second one "Buried Dreams"was voted third placed record of the year, behind Portishead and Massive Attack, in the 1994 Wire critics poll. "Doll Creature" create a mysterious imaginative landscape through sound, a narrative that takes form within our emotions through the unvisualizable phenomenon of sound. A spiritual inspiration that throws the obscure lineaments of invisible sound into visible relief. Some news about our friends BiP_Hoppin' around… SI-CUT.DB Long awaited almost lost "legendary" album is out on Fällt. In the meantime his music and sound has greatly evolved but die-hard afficionados will be happy that this document has seen the light of day. PAN/TONE Our canadian hero, relocated in Koln, was over for the week-end to play our Playschool event and once again his set was very impressive, everyone dancing, shouting.
