http://www.liquidskymusic.com/ I couldn't tell why they shouldn't be supported but I can copy/paste some info from their website. Personally I've always been a big fan of Liquid Sky music as they are always compiling Drum n' Bass that is little more interesting and experimental. Also most of it is from US artists (if I'm not mistaken) and most of the songs aren't really heard elsewhere. Basically, if you're looking for some DnB that sounds different pick up any one of the "This is Jungle Sky" compilations. Liquid Sky was started by DJ Soulslinger - Here's a clipping of some info from the website: DJ Soul Slinger is a pioneer of electronic music in the US. As the founder and creative head of Liquid Sky Music and Liquid Sky D-Sign, he has been responsible for some of the most forward-thinking music and clothing to emerge from the New York City underground over the last several years. As Sonic Soul's Retina says in their July/August 1997 issue, "Few American producers/DJ's/entrepreneurs have done more to help the cause of stateside drum n' bass than NYC's Carlos Soul Slinger.". The Liquid Sky story started over a dozen years ago in Soul Slinger's birthplace, Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a clothing and cosmetics store. After becoming frustrated with the scene in Sao Paulo, he moved to New York. In 1989, he opened Liquid Sky in New York City, the first so-called "rave emporium". Liquid Sky has since become the favored destination of all ravers visiting New York. Soon he was spinning underground house and techno in Liquid Sky's basement and was a regular at the legendary Limelight. Soon however, the new sounds of drum and bass caught Soul Slinger's ears, and they became an integral part of his DJ sets and his production style. In 1994, he released the Jungle Liquid Sky/Ethiopia 12", the first release on Jungle Sky Records, and the first drum and bass record by a US producer. The second 12", Abducted/Jungle Bossanova, is now a classic, and inspired an entire album of remixes (Missing Time - The Abducted Remixes). Since then, he has released several singles, such as the seminal Diana/Theresa white label with DJ Wally, as well as appearing on every one of the This Is Jungle Sky compilations. I too have never understood why people have such an issue with them - DnB heads call them weak and lame, but I dunno why - because they weren't No U-Turn? All I know is their comps do more for me than most. I also really like the DJ Wally stuff. And the comps are worth picking up just for the Marshall H tracks alone. Too bad he hasn't done much of anything since. I also really dig Yellow Note, and 1.8.7's okay too. Maybe it's just Dallas, but there's a lot of resistance to any US based DnB in general - though they did just book Hive here recently. It struck me as a bit odd.

I never managed to get my hands on Diana/Theresa, unfortunately. Anyone know where I could score a copy? Also worth noting is that Liquid Sky have basically gone under. Something about Caroline not paying them. So no more of that. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, a ton of their shit was pretty terrible. Did you ever hear that last fucking comp they did? The "funk" one? Holy Christ that thing ate my ass until it was raw. There are Americans making jungle that are respected outside of the US (and there have always been North Americans gaining respect... Particularly the Toronto people like Vinyl Syndicate) especially people like the Thermal/Phunckateck people. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ... It's kind of sad. They went from having this really sleek, trendy shop with clothing and music to now having a little run-down hole in the wall with a cardboard sign. But I've never heard any mention of the one LS artist that crossed the line more than any other on the label. Have any of you heard Tube? It first sounded like a movement into the drill and bass thing, but I don't think that anymore. To this day, I haven't heard anyone else that sounded like his music. Very tight, mental head music with the obvious drum & bass influence, but more in line with what we might listen to. You should check it out if you can find it in a used CD bin. It's a shame to hear that store is gone. I'll recall my one fond Liquid Sky memory--- walking in there, and going down to the record store downstairs (Temple Records? I forget) where upon I found a true record store gem-- a piece of shit on the floor. This was no ordinary piece of shit. It was rather lengthy, and it seemed particularly hardened, as though it had been there for some time. There was also a dog roaming around the small shop, so I imagined it was that dog from whence this piece of shit came. Ah, I'll remember the Liquid Sky store for years to come. They also had goofy big raver pants, if I recall. - wells oliver [wells@submute.net] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My fondest moment in the store had to do with buying a record downstairs. I remember handing it to the cashier and then standing around for a minute waiting while the she was in mid-conversation with a co-worker. Finally she put it in a bag, handed it to me and said "thanks, have a nice day". And I hadn't yet pulled my wallet out. TekDz9er

Tube! Yes! Thanks for reminding me of Frank...Hies I think is his last name. Rob & I used to enjoy a jam session him and a large circle of friends with machines used to pull off weekly in NYC a few years back (Dylan Drazen , et al..)....He has a great personality also! A funny, nice and talented guy. Shame about the Liquid Sky thing. That place was pretty cool...a friend of mine, Mare from Detroit, had a art exhbition there, she had D. Wynn spin. Neat t-shirts there. Another small shop that had neat merchandise and a small but carefully selected stock of vinyl and cd's was Strange? (? mark I think is supposed to be upside down). Colin ran a cool place. At 02:08 PM 11/10/01 -0600, Andrew Hime wrote:
