The question you need to ask yourself is "are the people asking to MC down with your music?" If hte answer is no, then they have aboslutely no place spitting science or rapping about self-absorbed nonesense during your timeslot. Seoncd, realize that you have a responsiblity to stay in control, and by giving away a mic to someone, especially someone you dont know, this could be an invitation to trouble. My personal experience with this happened in St. Louis, MO. My two buddies and I did a freeform yet structured ambient and intelligent jam session in a coffee house, which brought in a varied crowd. One of my buds let this cat mc, in all of 15 mintues it was 5 or 6 rappers talking shit, none of whom were remotely down with what we were doing, asking for beats which were more appropriate for them to rap over (80s and 90s played out beats as heard on MTV,) and the rest of the crowd left for the night. We banned any MC unless we had all agreed on a specific person before the show, just so we wouldnt piss each other off. Their agenda is total foreign. On the other hand, MCs like Jack Spaar, Deerflesh and Mangina conpose and twist their lyrics specifically for more intelligent, less mainstream styles of hip hop/ glitch hop or what have you. Never hook up someone with a mic. If they are hell bent on rapping over whatever you are doing, then they should have purchased and brought their own professional equipment in advance, especially something that has spit and beer breath going into it. Dont expect people to respect your equipment. And the reply pasted below is right the fuck on.
