Couchblip! Newsletter 23rd October 2001 +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ October New Release! Artist: Disjunction Reunion Title: Computer Dead Reckoning Cat#: blip002 Disjunction Reunion has finally released his much anticipated full length debut CD Computer Dead Reckoning a 17 track excursion into textured electronica. Computer Dead Reckoning is mature, surprising and consolidated. The album travels seamlessly from melodic down tempo electronica to playful, chunky, beat based tunes with that unifying thread which is Disjunction Reunion. The sometimes too serious world of electronic music is turned upside down with tracks such as Naps for the Belted described as a "twisted take on drum and bass, reminiscent of earlier Aphex and Squarepusher". This CD also includes a reworking of Disjunction Reunion's music by the Denmark based artist Pellarin. With tracks such as Ancient Intoxicant - short, sweet, beautiful and to the point -it is hard to resist this music. Disjunction Reunion's ability to weave classic and modern elements is apparent in this release which sees his wide range of influences, from the likes of jazz,hip-hop and the purest of electronica, come together to create a style which is uniquely Disjunction Reunion. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Review by Paris Pompor, Drum Media, Issue 569, 16th October 2001 On his debut LP for the label, one third of Sydney's Couchblip!, Luke Killen, sends a 'thankyou' to those "producing beautiful and difficult music across the world" & then proceeds to offer up 17 compositions which are far from difficult to listen to & whose beauty is revealed in increasing levels over repeated listens. As if almost intentionally wanting to ease the listener in, the album sets sail with a beatless and tranquil piano piece whose tiers of complimentary meoldies build and ebb, until a sudden & jarring shutdown nudges the listener and gives clues to some of the crunchier sounds that will follow - but will never overide the generally lulling mood of the CD. On a track like 'Young Brady', the music gravitates towards the busier end of electronic instrumentalism, where trickling patterns meet with dissected drum 'n' bass rhythms, while concentric tiers of melody radiate out from a principal theme. Thematically it connects with kindred beats further on as well as the rest of the album's focus on tunefulness, reflecting many of the tracks' possession of distinct & seductive hooks. It's these that one can imagine were the initial seeds for development. Later 'Buzz Buzz Bot' dials up an electro hip hop vibe with a kind of simulated scratching on board, track 10 taps into a dub vibe & 'Noodles in golf pants' is pure hand-drawn animation-soundtrack material.
