Friday Wake Up Productions and Neverstop Present MING & FS with BAHAMADIA DJ Kid Hops (90.3 KEXP, Expansions) $13 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records 10 pm show The New York based DJ/Producer duo is at it again with their second full-length release, The Human Condition - an irresistible amalgam of hip-hop, electro, two-step garage, drum 'n' bass and soulful house that draws you directly into the heart of the New York City landscape. Beats of all shapes and sizes whiz by your ears in an explosion of future music, subtle samples, understated rhythms, and the occasional sensuous vocal blend together to create track after track of MING & FS magic. They have an uncanny talent for mixing the right styles at the right times, never failing to imbue the tracks with a touch of their unique class. Monsters on the decks, they now bring their technical savvy back to the I Spy for another classic set. There is no doubt that BAHAMADIA loves music - This Philadelphia native has lived and breathed it for years. Her formidable rhyme skills, unceasingly honed since the earliest days of Rap, and her progressive musical outlook, make her more than just an incredible MC. BAHAMADIA is an innovative talent recognized in various musical genres as a forerunner of tomorrow?s music. In 1996, EMI Records released BAHAMADIA?S critically acclaimed debut album entitled "Kollage" on its Chrysalis label. "Kollage," which BAHAMADIA described as, " various blends and mixtures of my style of hip hop encompassing different topics that are important to me". 7th ? Wednesday Wake Up Productions and Jasiri Media Group Presents URSULA RUCKER (K7) PIECE OF SOL Isangmahal Arts Collective $10 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records 10 pm show There is a new sound emerging from Philadelphia. URSULA RUCKER?S debut album SUPA SISTA (!K7 Records) strikes an intricate balance between new jazz, hip-hop and Philly soul - all infused with poetic vision. URSULA RUCKER has collaborated with some of the most innovative artists in music. Admired and respected for recordings with 4 Hero, Jamaladeen Tacuma, King Britt, The Silent Poets, Josh Wink, and Bahamadia, URSULA has also been honored to close The Roots three studio lps. Throughout SUPA SISTA, she flexes her skills as a song writer, lyricist and vocalist. Touching on subjects ranging from womanhood, the state of black music, love lost, and child abuse, URSULA teamed with an array of producers to create an unprecedented effort that is entertaining, provocative and socially conscious. Many people call here the female version of SAUL WILLIAMS, who will be here early December, but I say she?s really just URSULA RUCKER. 9th- Friday Uniting Souls Presents SOULSTICE 13th-Tuesday Wake Up Productions Presents The Planet ? tour with ?-ziq Venetian Snares Plastiq Phantom and Sexual Vanilla featuring Andy Sells of FCS North $12 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records. 10 pm show One of the premiere names in the field of electronic home-listening music is ?-ziq. Pronounced simply "music" not only is it all-encompassing but it also serves as the only logical way to describe the multi-faceted and unique new sounds he's conjuring up at any given time. His recordings retain the abrasive flavor of early techno pioneers and explore the periphery of experimental electronica, even while coddling to his unusual ear for melody, the occasional piece of vintage synthesizer and distorted beat-box rhythms. ?-ziq?s albums are all over the map, but when Virgin Records signed Paradinas to a hefty contract and gave him his own Planet ? sub-label to release his own work as well as develop similar-minded artists, he then had the opportunity to create whatever he liked and have it pushed out to the masses. Written into his own contract was a provision for unlimited recording under different names, and during 1995 ?-ziq definitely took it to task. He unveiled three aliases and released as many albums in less than a year's time. In July 1999 Mike released his latest album "Royal Astronomy" - his most adventurous yet accessible collection to date. The album reveals a more melodic and poppier side to Paradinas than on previous occasions whilst taking care not to discard any of the innovative programming and cutting-edge beats that he's become renowned for. Though ?-ziq is still unable to break through to the mainstream, he has toured around the world for a year with Bjork, sold out I Spy last time he came through, and broken all musical boundaries put in front of him. Don?t miss this legendary performer! 23rd ? Friday Uniting Souls Presents KEVIN YOST Jacob London $10 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records 10 pm show 24th ? Saturday Jasiri Media Group and KEXP Present SOURCE OF LABOR Beyond Reality Vitamin D Candidt $10 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records Nation: Wake Up Productions Presents DETROIT GRAND PUBAHS and DJ ASSAULT $10 adv. @ www.ticketweb.com and Orpheum Records 10 pm show The DETROIT GRAND PUBAHS, aka Paris the Black Fu & Andy Toth, were brought together by the forces of slave labor. Paris toiled for years as a snow cone operator at the Detroit Zoo, where he met Andy, who was cleaning gorilla cages in hopes of one day becoming a world-class zoo keeper. Jump a couple of years, and they met in the lab and created the track ?Sandwiches.? The track spread like wild fire through clubs, resulting in a lot of local support for the duo. The song?s playful and pornographic lyrics made it a hit in Detroit, a city that is notorious for often taking an over-serious approach to techno. In addition, the DETROIT GRAND PUBAH?S live performance became popular due in part to their off the wall antics, such as wearing wigs, costumes, and Paris stripping down to a thong. "Funk All Y'all? came out on Jive Electro a couple of months ago and are taking the world by storm! They?ve been here a bunch of times and it?s always off the hook! 25th-Sunday Wake Up Productions Presents JAFFA and CAF?
