ok,ok, i overreacted/made big assumptions there...
and when i say "rock" i dont mean distorted power chord, i mean love.
Bambi "rocks." i've just feel like i'm witnessing a general aesthetic
decision to make surface music (emphasis on texture qualities), which is
fine, but i prefer heart-wrenching (and have heard plenty of examples that
offer both). what drew me to early aphex and mu-ziq was the quality of
songmanship, the heart. i understand that electronic music is
disregarding/rewriting the rules, but i struggle to find a constant flow of
materials that satisfy me in such a way that, say, Neil Young and his
acoustic does, or Led Zepellin, or the Smiths, or SlowDive ... of course
this isn't electronic music's job, it's charting new territory, new
emotions, and the constant battle against succumbing to the naturally
numbing effects of computer/synth based music creation is a fascinating one
to watch. but i believe there are inherent qualities in all music that
soothes our deepest insecurities and aligns us with one another that will
carry on until we are no more...and this is what i seek.
AND i got drunk last weekend and headbanged to AppetiteForDestructin in its
entirety and everything since has just been a big come down.
