<de-lurk> I'm glad someone's mentioned Confield. I put off buying it for a long time, just simply because all the reviews made it sound so impenetrable. I have to say when I finally heard it, I found it nothing of the sort. In fact I found it to be almost pastoral - it's a lot less harsh than LP5 or EP7. For my money it seems to be the album ae were always heading for. Tracks neither start of stop but drift from one state to another (without ever reaching a peak or final version), and for all the noise, all the way through you can hear the melody and the rhythm - it's almost like cubist or impressionist IDM. My favorite track at the minute is Pen Expers, which reminds me a lot of Cichli. What I like particularly is the fact that the drums are so much part of the emotion of the track.

For me with AE it's always been the fact that they make 'where am I?' music- most music paints a picture in your mind. With AE it's always very abstract. I've got a differing opinion on this one. I've revisited Confield several times now to see if it'll "click" with me and so far no luck. In fact I can hardly stand it. To me it doesn't have the sonic tapestry or range or depth or whatever you wanna call it that their other stuff has. As far as the "new" sounding albums go, I just transfered my Chiastic Slide vinyl to cd and I'm totally in love with it all over again. Also I would throw In The Nursery in there, too. Deco is my favorite, but also An Ambush of Ghosts. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I too put off/didn't get around to purchasing Confield until recently and I'd have to say it goes to a whole other level for me - by far my favourite in their oeuvre. We just bought ourselves a newish VW Passat recently which to my great pleasure has a pretty decent cd sound system - my favourite mode of listening to Confield is LOUD on London's North Circular heading out of town to work in the mornings - blows the sleep away no end and mirrors/extends/corrupts the urban wastescape frighteningly. If you're driving along and hear the sound of skidding marbles coming up loud behind you that'll probably be me... All the best, Colin. np Miles Davis, Live at Filmore East March 7
