The Taliban or whoever pulled this shit will all die. Nothing like this since Pearl Harbor. About 2500 died in Pearl Harbor. I sense this will be worse. problems problems problems. the taliban has denied reponsibility (i know that doesn't mean they didn't do it), as have all other knee-jerk finger-pointing targets. as the "most powerful country in the free world"(TM) america has (in my dumb-ass socialist commie canadian view) a responsibility not to drop bombs, but to find the culprits and bring them to justice. which is what they did with timothy mcveigh (although i don't believe his execution was justice in any way). Yes, innocent people were used to inflict mass destruction and yes, its a really fucking huge tragedy. I do agree if people start shouting about beginning a war without any thinking. Its a serious matter where an eventual reaction should be considered very carefully. After all Bush isn't the most popular guy around (this is just noticing what Europeans pointed out when he was elected, so this hasn't got anything to do with religious fanatics or whatever). The point where most people where afraid of Bush is war. Now he got a reason to start one (if he find the responsibles). Let's all just hope todays tragedy was an act of an isolated group, and not a state. It was completely madness, and surrealistic just knowing thousand of people probably died, but personally i don't feel like another Korea, Vietnam. And if the warheads are so determined to have their revenge, and IF these guys in Afghanistan are responsible, do think what Russia went through a couple of years ago. I really want some peace around, and revenge isn't really an option. Don't know what is, but there should be something. j

I'm sorry you disagree, but i must reiterate: I do not want this list to degenerate into poorly informed politcal diatribes. We've far from ignored the issue. The outpouring of emotion today on this list was pretty amazing. We shared information, emotions, and even wishes from other countries. That's what communities do. If we can keep this on a friendly level, that'll be great...let's do it. But if we let ourselves get bogged down with political debate, we'll just be getting 500+ emails a day of angry mail, and nothing will get solved. We've seen this before...and the eventual result is a mass unsub from the list.
