Susumu Yokota. We know he's prolific. Since autumn 1999, Yokota has
released five Skintone albums (through The Leaf Label outside Japan)
- Image 1983-1998, Magic Thread, Mix (a 12" on Leaf), Sakura and the
recent Grinning Cat, plus the highly sought after (and now deleted)
LeafCompilation mix CD. Then there's Zero on Sublime in Japan (to be
released by Exceptional in the UK later this year). But what can we
do? He's undeniably - consistently - extremely good. And his fans are
multiplying at a steady rate everywhere.
Will is the first house album Yokota has released on his own Skintone
label, and the first of his more dance oriented albums Leaf has
licensed, for the very reason that it's too good not to! Will was
recorded during the same period as Grinning Cat, and can be considerd
a sister album. It retains Yokota's unmistakeable crackly, hand-made
aesthetic, marrying it to his twitchy dancing feet while avoiding
even the faintest whiff of cheese.
This is a strictly limited, double vinyl-only release of 2,000 copies
for the world (Yokota has released a Japan-only CD on Skintone).
Playful and flirtatious, Will is another compelling Yokota release.
In addition, Yokota mixes are currently in circulation on Gilles
Peterson's Worldwide International show, and Coldcut's Solid Steel.

2. GORODISCH live debut in London - tonight!
Gorodisch, aka Stephen Cracknell, makes his live debut at London's
compact and bijou 12 Bar Club tonight, with a band comprising of
Stephen with Sam Jeffers and Adem Ilhan from Fridge, who played
together as Badly Drawn Boy's band last summer.
His mini-LP, 'Thurn & Taxis' (DOCK 22/CD), received much lovely
praise and peaked at #2 in 7 magazine's Zzub Chart.

See below for other Gorodisch DJ dates.
"like (the sadly missed) Ultramarine and, much more recently, The
Beta Band, Simian and Zero 7, Stephen Cracknell recognises the
natural link between the pastoral tradition (acoustic/analogue) and
contemporary electronica (digital). As Gorodisch, he released his
divine debut LP. 'Thurn & Taxis', a bewitchingly oblique take on the
folk idiom which booted it into the twenty-first century and made it
funky as fuck.
This serving of Gorodisch should make for a pretty magical night"
