I had a very pleasent day at datamusik, although I enjoyed the first part of the concert most. The first 5 hours was outside, along the harbour (with the lineup listed in helix' mail), and the last 6-7 hours was inside an old factory, a location with quite a 1992-rave-feel to it. Opiate's and Stefan Betke's (=Pole) dj sets was top notch in my opinion, surprisingly hip-hop, actually I think Betke played the entire b-side of the prefuse73 cd plus lots of other similar stuff. Unfortunatly, as the evening moved along, weird rave-heads hi-strung on drugs started turning up. This had (I think) a bad influence on the artists, because Safety Scissors and Monolake played very hard, with fast-pounding bass drums, and even Andreas Tilliander followed along. Not exactly what I enjoy. But the first part of the day, with Opiate+Orchard+Manual, Monolake, Mokira and all the other short live sets was very enjoyable. The nice weather, the harbour and the good idm music was an excellent combination. (addition to the lineup listed below) Barclub room: Jet-tone, Ned Flanders, Daniel Safety Scissors live+dj [Plug Research, San Francisco] Copenhagen Brains video Outdoor garden area: Monolake live [ml/i, Berlin] + Alexej Paryla video Andreas Tilliander live [Mille Plateaux, Stockholm] + Mikael Stavöstrand video Opiate [Hobby Industries] Skipp mix [Skipp Records, Lillé] + Qubo Gas video Stefan Betke + Barbara Preisinger [~scape, Berlin] + Aaron Day video -stefan Lance @ Inaudible wrote:

I also had a great time. I have to agree that Opiate's set was great. Slow abstact hip hop blended with some more tradishional IDM ala Schnieder (spelling?), Music Aus Strom, and even bubbly Reaktor farting noise music as well. Other high lights for me included, the set by the Bravo resident DJ playing really slick micro house and the great set by safty sissors that followed, and seeing Andreas Tilliander using buzz live to punp out some realy fresh techno of the noisy sort. I had one sureal experience. Dancing inside to saftey scissors singing stormy weather live and then heading out side to Barbra Preisinger playing Stormy weather in her set at the same time! Took me a second to figure out what was up. Overall though, my favorite part of the whole experience was the varitety. Djs weren't afraid to play a really great drill and base track followed by a dubbed out IDMish hip-hop track for instance (especially before it got crowded). BTW never saw Pole there I was looking when he was supposed to be on but only saw a female (I'm assuming was Barbra becase they played Jan Jelinek's "them, their" and bunches of other hissy drone house tracks). Pole dj'ed for about 1½ hour, just before Barbra Preisinger's set. Speaking of stormy weather, I must admit that I was laughing very hard when safety scissors played it. That guy sings worse than anything I've ever heard in my life. It must take some balls to actually do it in front of a crowd. Matt Jackson wrote:
