Hi All, I was told a story recently about Aphex Twin playing at a Festival in France. Apparently he turned up and played 1 hour of brutal speedcore, much to the dismay of the organiser. With people like Mike Paradinas, Aphex Twin, and numerous other artists now embracing a lot of Hardcore Techno (for want of a better word) I was wondering what the general feeling about this was from people on the list who have spoken out against Hardcore Techno in the past. There are a lot of producers out there like Hellfish, The DJ Producer, Max Death, Nasenbluten, Traffik and many many besides who are making some very innovative music which is being played out by some of your idols yet people are still writing it off as rubbish. So the question is...... In 1 years time will the perception of Hardcore Techno by some IDM'ers be changed, if the likes of the people above continue to support it? changed, if the likes of the >people above continue to support it? I wouldn't say that it's a recent thing - Aphex has being playing that stuff for years, and u-Ziq's Hard Love is a good few years old (not Hardcore Techno as such, but definatly getting there). Anyway, I love a bit of it now and again, but too much really does my head in - perhaps I'm getting too old. When the Rephlex gang played Belfast last year Dave Clarke was also playing in the same building, so I took a dander down to see him, but after listening to the almost gabber type stuff Richard James was playing it just sounded really dull in comparison. It had a good old rave feeling about it rather than the standard techno/deep house which usually gets played round where I live. .glenn --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think its an open acceptance of a variety of sounds and these guys are definitely the type to be down with both the extreme and the somber. I think its equally exciting that there's tons of new producers that draw from all different styles... But personally i was into hardcore before i was into "idm"... but it seems like the styles are blurring more of late which is nice... - cutups ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Hard Store" <thehardstore@ntlworld.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 11:34 AM Subject: [idm] Is Hardcore Techno worthy! or is Bad taste back in fasion??? Fugk Nawh! Its just all pound, with no weight! Seems like most unconscious listeners like this style/brand of techno. Of course different things make different people move differently, its a sad state of affairs to me...........

organiser. I am reminded of a time in San Francisco where he turned up at a party and proceeded to put on a record with a piece of tape on the vinyl, before leaving and returning 30 minutes later to move the tape and leave again. I didn't know who he was then (I just went along because a friend invited me), but it rather put me off listening to any of his stuff for a few years :-) Anig Browl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Take it how U want to! Man, U cats are starting to sound like the masses...."the list".....! Look, all that hardcore shit, to me, is for an unconscious mind.... Yeah, its a big statement, like mine always, but its just my opinion.... I dont particularly care about a fucking name, if your music/set is weak then its just that, weak. AFX, tissssshhh, its all just a large bandwagon that many jump on and cant get off. Now if that statement is correct, it should help to answer your question. I cant speak about Paradinas---I havent heard any of his music-- as for A-fex, his shit aint all that! Are you are suggesting what what we do is "a large bandwagon that many jump on and cant get off" if so, it has got to be the single most amusing statement thats ever been made about "Hardcore techno" ever. It stunningly proves your complete and utter ignorance of anything we do or stand for. Do you really think AFX is playing "Hardcore Techno" to try and jump on any "Large Bandwagon" that exists with our scene. I was hoping to attract some informed debate about why he would choose to do something like that when he is so obviously known for doing nothing in that kinda area before. Is it just a revolt against what people expect from him. After all I think he has always thrived on being a musician who stuck out from the crowd and NOT done what people expected too! BTW I am very interested to know what kind of artists you listen to and admire so I can check them out. perhaps I am missing something interesting! Cheers Simon
