culture,with refreshing blend of future jazz , microhouse , electronica and any
other forward thinking
music .
In its quest to showcase new talent & new music , Acapulco proudly presents 'SUTEKH'
Born in 1973 in Los Angeles , California , Sutekh's first obsession with music occurred
in 1983 when he discovered the
graffiti / breakdancing subculture that permeated his Venice Beach neighbourhood
.Armed with fat laces , fat markers
a boombox and an old piece of lino , he staked his territory on the Venice boardwalk
, blasting tracks by UTFO , Run DMC,
and Egyptian Lover ; attempting to impress passers-by with his skills . Realising
his lack of skills , he soon ditched the
breakdance scene , turning his attention to all things Prince : Apollonia , Vanity
, Sheila E , Morris Day and the Time , and the artist
himself . He later turned his focus unto synth - pop / new -wave bands like Depeche
Mode , Joy Division and the Cure .
In 1992 , using his college loan money , he purchased his first computer and synthesizer
and attempted to make music . He later
purchased turntables and began collecting records by the likes of Aphex Twin and
Underground Resistance, thereby
establishing himself as a budding dj . 1997 saw Sutekh's first release on the Belief
Systems compilation "Swivel"
Continuing with his djing ; he was soon invited to be resident dj at San Francisco's
obscure weekly party , Static . Static
slowly burgeoned as a legendary outlet for eclectic / experimental electronic music
from local as well as international talent .
Sutekh has since released tracks for German labels ; Force Inc , Mille Plateaux ,
Source , Background as well as his own
Context label . His live / dj sets continue to capture audiences at events / venues
such as Club Asia - Tokyo , Transmission Festival - Chicago,
WMF - Berlin , Sonar Festival - Barcelona , Batofar - Paris , and now Acapulco -
London .
