Not that he really matters, but I was just wondering if people considered Funky Porcini to be IDM or not. My gut reaction is to say no, but then sometimes he does sound very IDMish. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I personally consider a large chunk of the ninjatune roster IDM, including Porcini. He's just part of the breaks/jazz/funk section of idm :D cheers, /derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- now on the interweb --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Personally I hearken back with some fondness to the days when all was simply called techno and IDM (or IDM-l) embraced styles more readily. Not that subgenres and delineations aren't normal and good for descriptions and not that there weren't some distinctions made even in the early 90s. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the insulation of lists like this, though, and forget that you have to be pretty much on the inside to acknowledge the differences. To back up Omar's recent thread, I DO find myself often digging back to the 93-96 period when the latest glitch doesn't enthrall me. wistfully (and home, sick) jeff At 07:54 AM 7/26/2001, EggyToast wrote:

I havent listened to anything Funky Porchini has done in several years but their "Ashabanapal's Big Pink Inflable" ep on Ninja Tune from back in '95 was a wonderful 'IDMish' release featuring remixes by Plaid, Digidub, and Dillinger. A wonderful cut-up breakbeat fest. Have they done anything noteworthy since that time? -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

93-96 period when the latest glitch doesn't enthrall me Indeed Jeff. More often than not. It seems to me that most people are out for recognition or something.........sheez, do any of you remember back a couple of years ago when no one was on the glitchy sound(pops/clicks etc.)? Now every Mike, joe, and bob is doing it......and there's that mad rush for some thing "new" again:( ........It depends on the ear sure, but to me, if you havent mastered walking, how the heck could you move on to high jumping(for the those that are wisdomly challenged :) ......that's a way of saying stick to the basics and master that----then move on creatively to something else------- Sorry to bug ya list, its my freak'n day off, and like mix master morris, I am about to be off into the real world...................:) ----- Original Message ----- From: Mxyzptlk Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2001 8:26 AM To: EggyToast; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] Is Funky Porcini IDM?
