No, there are no good record stores in NYC. In fact,
there is no music for sale here in any way, shape, or
form, whatsoever. The good, decent people of NYC stay
away from such things.
However, I hear tell of a horrific, misguided
underground movement, dealing music out of dusty nooks
and crannies scattered around lower Manhattan. I know
not the gory details myself, but I'm sure our great
leaders will put an end to it soon. If a wayward
citizen - a lost soul such as yourself, perhaps - were
so inclined, I've heard rumours on the secret mailing
lists of the internet about the following places:
Other Music
15 E. 4th St., New York, NY, 10003; (212) 477-8150
Etherea
66 Ave. A, New York, NY, 10009; (212) 358-1126
Mondo Kim's
6 St. Mark's Pl., New York, NY, 10003; (212) 598-9985
Earwax
132 N.5th St., Brooklyn, NY, 11211; (718) 486-3771
There may even be other dark corners of the earth in
which this soulless madness rears its ugly head; I
hear tell of vague compendiums of the black knowledge
circulating among the damned, fervently and fiendishly
sought out by those who, for whatever reason, seek to
bring this evil upon themselves.
