haven't heard a word about any of the new tigerbeat releases on the list. anyone picked up the new stars as eyes, lesser, and electric company yet? i got Mazk a few weeks ago. it's a single live track about 36 mins long. heavily distorted beats and screaching/twirling sounds, pushed under heavy tides of noise. i don't listen to a lot of noise, so i'm not the best person to classify this release in relation to other things by the two artists responsible. i find it refreshing though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i picked up the stars as eyes, lesser, and electric company stuff at a recent 606 show, and was VERY pleased that they were having a sort of tigerbeat 6 not-just-kid-606-and-cex-releases for sale type thing. anyway... stars as eyes didn't really do anything for me at first... the same kind of mellow i've heard before, the same kind of tiny beats. but then i was listening to it at night, loudly enough, sitting on my patio after work and it was night and i was just able to relax after a fairly exhausting day, and i noticed just then that tracks 7 and 11 were EXHILIRATINGLY good. so then i listened to the whole album a few more times, and though it does careen towards the familiar every so often, it's a nice sound to have filling your head. lesser. ahhhh... lesser, old bean. pal. i really do not know what to expect with every new lesser release. i should, by now, perhaps. but for some reason i eagerly unwrap the cellophane to hear in what manner he's fucked with the music this time. well. i was disappointed this time, in earnest. the best thing about mensa dance squad (aside from the title, haha) is the gangsta rap samples, and even thoughs are to be expected at this point. i'll still rock it every now and then. but it's no gearhound or 606/lsr split. the beats are definitely in his style... like 3 or 4 or perhaps 89 computerized drummers beating their own heads to death. and electric company, sorry, i don't mean to mince words, but i just plain don't like electric company on cd... though i do like the house-y feeling that the new thing has... live elco is a force to be reckoned with, but i've been disappointed with every single cd... and deep down i feel bad, because i know it's good, i just think that it's possible that i can't disassociate him from medicine (his old band, who i don't think were too good)... anyway, there's a few worthwhile songs on it, but i'm not really the person to ask. gregory not even in the works yet: www.jeanpaulasthma.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
