I know the book "All Music Guide to Electronica - the Definitive Guide to Electronic Music" was recently mentioned on this list but I just wanted to convey to all what an amazing resource of information this book is. Just imagine a 700 page book that features nothing but thousands bios & reviews on idm, techno, house, disco, acid jazz, electro-acoustic, garage, gabba, trance, industrial dance, hardcore, krautrock, noise, old school rap, shoegazing, space-rock, breakbeat, jungle, ambient, post-rock, trip-hop, electro, new-wave, classic dub, techno-pop, and proto-electronic artists and releases. also included are a handful of label profiles, a glossary of different electronic-related genres with evolutionary maps of each genre, electronic-music related book reviews, and several pages of the best mailorder shops for music discussed in the book. i never like to reveal lancebot resources, but the "All Music Guide to Electronica - the Definitive Guide to Electronic Music" is the MUST-HAVE book for electronic music enthusiasts. dont miss this fabulous resource that does and admirable job of covering not only electronic music but all of the related and roots genres as well. infinite kudos and thanks to John Bush and the rest of the All Music staff for producing such and incredible book. it is now a permanent fixture on my already overcrowded desk. -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This looks like a very interesting book! But, I was wondering, does this book offer more/extended information than the website at www.allmusic.com ? Other books about music I've enjoyed reading: "Last Night a DJ saved my Life - The History of the Disc Jockey" "FUNK - The Music, the People, and the Rhythm of The One" Not exactly IDM-related, but if you like electronic/dance music in general, these will probably appeal to you. Anyone got other recommendations? SayVegin

Well, most of the material *is* available on the website, though it's all but impossible to put together your own book from looking at the site. The label profiles, book reviews, online-retail profiles and introduction are all totally new, and the music maps, essays, compilation reviews and style descriptions have been changed drastically. Even with the artists and reviews, we spent a lot of time grabbing artists from all corners of the site, not just techno/IDM -- while surfing the site, you might think of looking up Plaid, BOC, Twerk or Kit Clayton, but would you think of looking for Tod Dockstader, Larry Levan, Edgard Varese, Herbie Hancock, Can, Bruce Haack, Section 25, British Electric Foundation or Paul Schutze? (Okay, you will now!... ;>) I'll admit I'm biased, but I really like just paging through this book and stumbling across entries while I'm looking for something else. Oh well, 'nough said. Great to see this guy mentioned on IDM-l :) Just last week there was a new release by Boo Williams, with GU on keyboards: WILLIE GRIFFIN - ON THE DANCEFLOOR EP - [FARRIS WHEEL LTD - FWL 002] AFAIK he's got a new album and a new 12" on Basement Boys planned for the near future. Keep an eye on this site, it'll be updated sometime soon: www.freestylegrooves.com/gu SayVegin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
