Speaking of live IDM in the Seattle area, Bluehouse is going to be doing a stage at a renegade outdoor party featuring a slew of Seattle IDM artists on Aug 4. Here's the lineup: D.O.S.C. - live PA logic probe - live PA bad pioneer - live PA jerry abstract varaform DJ Beyonda after seeing Sunday night at Phoenix I've decided that the Northwest needs more outdoor IDM events.... This will be a free event. I'll post details in a few weeks. /mauck/ On Fri, Jul 13, 2001 at 08:22:39AM -0700, sarah richards wrote: naw, he's up here in seattle now. sorry san diego, we stole him back. oh and for all you seattle residents, vent 4.0 (an idm showcase) is set for july 26th at aristocrat's; DOSC's been the main organizer & will be playing along with five other live pa's & four amazing djs. more info at http://www.imputor.com. sarah[atomicforliving] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sorry to post so late, I just recently got back from the space. All told the line up Sunday night included Diagram of Suburban Chaos, Jerry Abstract, E*Rock, Not Breathing, Lusine, Phonem, Lexaunculpt, Bad Pioneer and Pippilina, and Fussik. Since I'm Fussik I'll skip the review of my set. DOSC: I have to say, Colin was great. This fellow, who is based in Seattle, played an outstanding set. If we had known who he was and that he was interested in performing I think we would have looked into putting him in a more prime spot. Afterwards he gave our booking person, Ari, a cd and this thing is absolutely solid. His music sounds like it has a strong Funkarma influence. Very deep, heavy bass lines, with a dark emotive edge to it. Absolutely wonderful, I highly recommend his work. Jerry Abstract: Jerry was 1 of 2 djs we had perform that night. His work is tight--seamless mixing skills with a wonderful flow. My only regret was that he was not able to play later. I think it would have been nice to place Jerry and Colin after E*Rock. However Jerry was on a tight schedule and it wasn't possible. E*Rock: Though Erik had a nice performance, I felt his music would have been more suited to the beginning of the evening. He was a bit too mellow to work well following Colin and Jerry's set. I felt the energy level waned a bit during this performance. Not Breathing: Incredible set. After a frustrating 30 minute set up sputter, Dave and crew came on to seriously grab everyone by the balls and rock the 40,000 watt system. These guys have a seriously dark edge to them. Reminded me quite a bit of some of the harder hitting Speedy J tracks I have heard. Lusine: What can I say? Jeff is amazing. It was a treat working with him and hanging out over the weekend. His set was so much better than any of his recorded work that I have heard. This is saying quite a bit considering I love almost everything he has put out. Unfortunately by the time he went on, most of the crowd had left. Sadly the majority of the people that were left Sunday night were people that were not too interested in exploring new musical directions. Consequently they missed some very good music. Jeff's work was much harder and beat laden than anything I have heard from him in the past. I felt that he was exploring some new directions in composition and if this is a sign of things to come I am one excited camper. Phonem: Pretty good performance, but I have to say I wasn't blown away. Elliot is a great musician, but he really didn't take it to the next level. His newer music seemed to me to be very similar to what he has been putting out for a long time. I suppose I was spoiled by all of the innovation that night and my standards were high. Lexaunculpt: Holly mother of god!!! This set was the shit. If any of you have not had a chance to see Alex perform, for the love of all things beautiful in the world, do yourself a favor and check this man out. Loud, hard, tight and crisp. He has seriously grown as a musician, I couldn't believe this was the same person that randomly happened to come out to phoenix last year and play on a renegade system. His stage presence was spectacular, and his sound was fresh. Truly much much more than your typical space bar performance. The fact that there were just 25-30 people left at the main stage didn't seem to phase him. he was in a world of his own with his laptop and an incredibly loud and well tuned system. Bad Pioneer and Pippilina: Pip, I know you are on here, and I don't know if I got a chance to properly thank you. Your game boy melodies were quite a wonderful sunrise treat. The energy between you and Matty was great. Fabulous presence and such a wonderful way to wrap up the festival and blow off the steam from the weekend. Thank you very much! And to all of you IDMers that came out, thanks for finding me and saying hi. It was nice to put a face to an email address. I'll definitly keep all of you posted for future events. -Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

dosc's actually based out of san diego (i think), and if i knew he was there, i'd have been there at 8 :P the guy is grand stuff, really. there was a post i was lucky enough to catch a while ago about him playing a set on groovetech during jerry abstract's show.. quite good stuff. all interested parties should check out his site.. there's a link off of www.imputor.com to his site with mp3s and all manner of goodies.. his track w/ halicon (another imputor? fellow) as liquid jr. is very much a favorite of mine, and has been since i found it. out of curosity, did dosc just come along with jerry abstract? some have been talking about the lack of musical discussion/reccomendation lately on the list. there's one that's worth checking out :) chris: thanks for putting this whole thing on.. i'm just a bit miffed that there wasn't much of a validation of a scene up around here at phoenixfest. i know there are more folk out there. but, for those of us that were there, spot on. my friend jeff and i showed up while not breathing was having that setup sputter. it was so much a validation to hear marumari being played on such a large sound system. i really hope the lack of a showing at phoenixfest doesn't hurt chances of other nights like the one put on on sunday, because i'd hate to see something like that die around here.

*shrug* it was probably more our fault than anything. it would have been better to have the IDM thing on the first night. Definitely a mistake we won't make again.

Definitely not, there will be many more happenings. My partner Ari and I intend to do a few more events throughout the year in the Portland area. Also, another one of the Phoenix organizers, Mauck, is based in Seattle and he will be collaborating on events as well. We will be working together with another fellow from Montana to make sure that this area will get a proper infusion of tasty IDM beats. In the mean time I would love to hear from some fellow IDMers in the PDX area. I would like to look into doing a weekly thing at a coffee shop and it would be good to hear from some artists that would be interested in working on this. It would be nice to also hear from anyone who would be interested in working on or somehow being part of some of the events that we will be doing over the next year. Shoot me an email and perhaps we can make some plans. -Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
