I'd expected to see this here, and maybe I missed it, but there's an interesting short email exchange between Cex and someone from Warp posted in his, journal at his site. Links to the only relevant entries here: http://tigerbeat6.com/cex/news01/cnews060501.htm http://tigerbeat6.com/cex/news01/cnews061201.htm You gotta read 'em both in order. Provides some interesting insight into the Warp leadership. It seems to me that Warp comes out on top here, but some pretty good points all around. OK, enough outta me already... -Adam __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Is it just me, or is it incredibly unprofessional for Cex to put private e-mails up for the public to view. As for the cex's comment about the sun setting on the warp empire, they are having an incredibly strong year with releases from Plaid, Square-pusher, Autechre and Aphex Twin on the horizon. The empire seems quite strong from the way I see it. Well, the first one was kinda dumb, although it was just him sharing what he thought was a joke. He got permission for the slew between him and Warp, though - if you read through the whole thing you see it asked and given.

I don't think he's talking about their IDM-l cred, I think he's talking about Warp's continued rise on a larger scale. Like, his view has been that the continued onslaught of releases doesn't matter to the average population of indie people when the artists continue to be so inaccessible. I don't know or care whether that's true or not, but his beef isn't with Warp's release schedule, but rather the image they regularly employ (and have since the beginning) of mechanical music shamens revered from afar. Doesn't quite jibe with the typical hip-hop way of doing things, where they are now getting their feet wet as they continue to grow and expand. I think Cex is generally wrong and over-reacting in his view of "laptop music vs. real people music"; but that's his thing and he's going with it. I still had fun at the show I saw last March. -Adam __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Yeah great... every label should sign release hiphop artists. There's not enough rap out there already. I too would absolutely hate to see Warp turn to a rap/hip hop label. Cex was complaining that Warp doesn't put out stuff for regular people. Why is that such a bad thing? Besides, we all know regular people aren't any good right? j/k, but heres a lame ass joke I came up with on Soulseek yesterday How many non idm-list(n)ers does it take to screw in a light bulb? a) Who cares, they can go fuck themselves. b) We'll never know, they'll always be in the dark. I think it's funny that since I have gotten this album, and I have started to use max/msp, I have really enjoyed listening to Confield and started to listen to LP5 again. I really don't get why so many can say they dig on LP5 but can't listen to Confield. Confield is just taking what they were doing on LP5 even deeper. I love this album more than ever.
