OK, some of you eggheads who have to buy everything will probably disagree with me, but I just have to say that, despite the flood of new Warp releases, this summer seems otherwise bereft of new outstanding IDM releases. I mean, other than the just-released Marumari album, all the stuff I find myself continually listening to and loving is from the first part of the year or last year. So anyways, I'm wondering what things everyone is really really really looking forward to (besides Mr. A to the X)? I mean, the only things I'm really looking forward to at this point, in the Summer, are Bogdan's new EP (hopefully on its way to me now), md's Between Gaps, that headphone compilation, maybe the new Eardrum album, assuming Leaf manages to get it out, but I don't know about that. Definitely upcoming Proem, Machine Drum, and Freeform. Maybe the Solvent on Morr, but as much as I liked the last Solvent, I'm wary of Morr releases. Otherwise, looking forward to a nice end of the summer, with Bjork and Tori Amos both coming out with new material, though it promises to not be the best for either of them. I have to give props to the first 2-3 tracks on Funckarma's Solid State. Excellent start. Too bad the rest kinda shrivels back to the generic level of their first release. -Bitter Adam ;-) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have to agree with some qualifications here...when I wrote with glowing approval of Solid State, I was on track 3. Still, I don't think the rest of it is all that bad - better than what I'd previously heard by them. Those first tracks are QUITE nice, though. I think a show of them drifts through the remainder - and I think I need to spin it more before I can say much of substance on it. jeff

I'm looking forward to the next BoC release... whenever that will actually happen. Anyone heard anything definite? Also, anyone know if Arovane has anything new coming out? That will hopefully be a winner in my book as well. -matT nashville.tn np: sneaker pimps : becoming x --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Lance, Thanks for the info and the site reference. I'll be sure to check it out. But I'm curious if you've heard these yet? I don't have access to a record player and don't have any sort of store that would carry these and/or would allow me to go in and listen. So what I'm wondering is, if you have in fact heard them, what is your opinion of these latest releases? How do they stack up to Atol Scrap or Tides? To me, the other two releases under the name Arovane are quite different from one another and I wonder where their sound is going. It seems to me that they are still trying to define their 'sound' in many ways.

It seems like all the things coming out this summer are just more albums from people we already know. At least, that's what seems to get discussed on the list most. Probably because such things lead to better arguments :D But as other people've stated, there are a few newer artists that have things out, but most of it is just more of the same from people we already know. So none of it's really groundbreaking - it's just better or worse than what came out earlier this year/last summer. cheeers, /derek At 08:12 AM 7/10/2001 -0700, you wrote:
