Can anyone recommend some good drum and bass? I'm stuck listening to Photek, Source Direct, etc. and I want some other stuff. No crappy stuff with some MC spouting mindless drivel up front, but some really cool D&B. Jungle always seemed to repetitive, so none of that. Any recommendations? I've heard some Guy Called Gerald and it's pretty good. - Dan J.

If you can dig up the scant Chaos & Julia Set stuff, it fits in to the samples you quote. J. Majik does, too (as well as the whole Metalheads cadre). If you don't mind it a bit smoother and jazzy, there's an Elegia lp on F Communications which is nice. Hard to beat the old Plug stuff for that style. Truthfully, it's been forever since I've gone that route unless you count the MBM/Jack Dangers stuff. You might want to check Tino's Breaks (Dangers)...there's a CD comp called "Hello Friends" in which you might be intrigued. jeff At 01:58 AM 7/7/2001, you wrote:

You might want to investigate Roupe as well. Some of the older Dot releases flirt there (Hab, Friend) with jazzy intonations and on the smoother side. Arcon 2 has always been a fave of mine. jeff At 01:58 AM 7/7/2001, you wrote:

Klute (Tom Withers), not to be confused with the industrial artist Klute. Tom Withers is awesome. Some of Sonar Circle (Domu) releases are great. Certificate 18 is the most consistent label for puting out quality tunes. If your looking for more interesting editing you have to look for older dnb. The last 2 years of drum n bass have not been too interesting. Rufige Kru - Beachdrifta is a nice one that is in the record shops right now. --- Dan John <djohn1@home.com> wrote:

My vote would be with Plug. Pick up Drum n' Bass for Papa which is available in a two disk set that includes Plug's EPs 1, 2 & 3 on the second disk. Those EPs are the best of Plug in my opinion and well worth the purchase. -matT nashville.tn --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Besides agreeing with this post - esp. about the EP's being really strong - a word of warning : this release came out in three different versions. One was a single disc, one was 2 discs, with the second one containing only one of the EP's, then there was the super bumper bonus one (the one to get!) with the 3 EP's on the 2nd disc. That one's probably the Nothing release, with the Blue Planet one being the double with only one EP on disc #2. Not sure now - it's been a while ago, but just be aware before you buy. Some DnB artists I find nice : - WE both "Square root of -1" and some-other-one with a typed monkey on a yellow cover are really slick. Everything from mind blitz hard stuff to really spacey atmospheres. - Anything by Plug (though not necessarily Wagon Christ or Luke Vibert). - A real classic is "Balance of the Force" by Boymerang on Astralwerks. Let's put it this way, I've bought the CD twice. - Goldie - "INCredible sound of Drum & Bass" - Double CD - the title says it all. Epic piece worth the price - still have psycological problems from a few of the tracks ;) On the Mix tip: - "Altered States of Drum & Bass" mixed by Raymond Roker is nearly perfect. - "DJ Dara - Renegade Continuum" - 2X CD - is the _only_ DJ Dara mix cd I like (probably cause it's not on Moonshine) Music for apocolypses in my opinion :) --pink

Hey all, Check out Sinewave - "Interplanetary Ridicule" on 2Top. The whole album is mp3d @ www.TwoTopRecords.com - jazzy, smoked out drum & b-movie grooves. The 12" is out on July 31st - the CD drops on Sept 4th. I have a bunch of white label 12"s now, if anyone's interested. Email me privately for more info: Tim Spurway tim@TwoTopRecords.com
