I know you dont like "rap", you havent listed anything decent. And yes, thats exactly my whole point. Now youre starting to understand. Snoppy Doggy Fucking Dog (whend he change his name?) and DMX are better than muziq and Phonem and RDJ.

This is just an ignorant comment. I'm talking about the fact that I don't think Marumari should be classified as rap. Plain and simple.

Yeah, it's the JOB of the people on this list to impress you. Let's all send Dan John our classic hip hop vinyl in hopes that he won't dislike black music/culture anymore. I usually enjoy useless conversations on this list, but this one has got to end. This guy is obviously an angry white man with a chip on his shoulder, and nothing positive that anyone says about hip hop is going to change his attitude. I kill-filtered that Ron Jeremy clown a long time ago, but still have to read his ass-flake statements through replies from other people, and now the same is going to happen with this clown. Anyone that starts a statement with "I'm not racist or anything..." and then unleashes a torrent of racial stereotypes that would make Jimmy the Greek blush, is not going to become a changed man just because a person with good intentions posted a list of great classic hip hop for him to listen to. I don't have a problem with off-topic threads, but this one is reminding me of a situation I've been in way too many times in my life: being in a room with a bunch of spineless white people, where there is no chance of a black person hearing them, and trying to ignore their ignorant condemnations of a culture they couldn't possibly understand. If nothing else, it just reminds me that in order to receive news and reviews on a kind of music I'm currently into; I have to be a part of a scene/email list that praises the talents of wack white producers that do everything possible to take the soul and blackness out of hip hop, and trying to call it "progressive". and all this on a list that has the audacity to call itself "intelligent". P.S., fuck Anticon, cLOUDDEAD, Pre73, and Dan "the Automator", too, for good measure. Yeah, yeah, I know it's blasphemy.. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The whole "rap sucks, prove me wrong!" tone is just offputting. It's common knowledge, however, that one thing the IDM list is good at is falling for numbskull flamebait.

Nah, not really. I can see reasons for not liking them as rap acts, and indeed the degree to which I like any of them has more to do with things the music resonates with outside of hip hop (x - "hip hop" = something interesting, sometimes). Beyond that, I can't imagine anybody seriously considering Prefuse 73 to be a hip hop act. -eric --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I consider Prefuse 73 to be more of a hip hop act than and IDM one, and also a prime offender of what I was talking about when I mentioned white producers taking the soul/blackness and in his case the message out of hip hop and giving it back to a 99% white suburban audience. cLOUDDEAD and Anticon are just embarrassing to listen to, but at least they try to keep something real. I shouldn't have even mentioned Dan the Automator at all, because while I don't dig most of the stuff he's done lately (Gorillaz anyone?) as hip hop acts, at least he's trying to break new ground -- not to mention break down stereotypes. Plus anyone that collaborates with Del, Kool Keith, and Prince Paul can't be all bad. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Sounds like a textbook definition of some flavors of IDM. :) I mean, if you have something that is considered to be hip hop and then suck out the history and replace it with nonverbal snippets of an anonymous MC, what does that leave you with? Half of Chiastic Slide, if you ask me. By the by, this "Artie Shaw/Benny Goodman/Bill Haley" cultural astringency argument is what I was wondering when I asked a few months ago if anybody knew any details on the P73 samples. The dearth of responses spoke as much about his fans as it did the music. That said, I still listen to it and like it but I don't consider it hip hop. There's a track on one of the first couple Schematics that mixes well with Foxy Brown's "Hot Spot". -eric onnow: Dub Tractor, "Delay" (FX) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It doesn't seem too off-topic for this list for someone to ask for a recommendation. It's not like you are obligated too.
quoted 3 lines Let's all>Let's all >send Dan John our classic hip hop vinyl in hopes that he won't dislike >black music/culture anymore.
So if one would say that they didn't like rock would that mean they dislike white culture. I think Black people have influenced and created many other styles other than hip hop. Just because someone doesn't like commercial hip hop doesn't make them racist. And hip hop isn't the absolute expression for black culture, it's just one part of it.

Just because someone doesn't have positive statements about the current state of hip hop...or what is being played in mainstream media doesn't mean it isn't worthy of discussion.

I thought it was the hip hop tunes themselves that were reinforcing the stereotypes. You aren't stereotyping by saying "spineless white people" are you?

Again I don't really care the color of the musician. I don't know if IDM is the list if you are looking for soul and blackness. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It sounds like you are categorizing the hiphop you like as 'hiphop' and the hiphop you don't like as 'rap'. Is there any other difference? Personally, a differentiation between rap and hiphop makes no sense to me at all. It's like you're talking nonsense, I really don't get your meaning here.
