Here i my review of it from a few weeks ago...
. Kid606: ps you love me cd (Mille Plateaux)
Twelve tracks here including eight fabulous remixes of 'PS I Love
You' tracks by Matmos, Atom (atom heart), Farben, Pan American,
Rechenzentrum, Electric Company, Twerk, and Kid606 himself. The album
starts out with a new track called 'act yr age' which features a nice
minimal click-techno track driving more by dueling synth lines than
by the muted percussion. The matmos remix pumps up the bpms with a
quirky 4x4 house remix that matmos has gotten so good at recently.
The Atom mix adapts a deep techno sound but with more of a cut-up
style. The Farben mix is typical farbenesque dubby atmospheric
click-techno that I, personally, can never get enough of. Pan
American delivers a very impressive remix featuring deep muted 4x4
percussion of sparse minimal eno-esque piano with a few pops,
glitches, and sfx thrown in for good measure (Has Pan American done
anything else in the percussive techno style?). Kitty Yo's
Rechenzentrum delivers a more straightforward cytrax-raum-force
tracks-styled mix. Electric Company's contribution is an eclectic mix
that alternates tempos and styles - from intermittent downtempo
squelchy guitar loops to short bursts of skittery minimalish techno
but always with a slightly abrasive edge. Next Twerk brings us back
to the clicktechno sound but adds some nice synth washes, gurgling
electronics and punchier percussions to make this mix one of the more
floor-friendly ones on the album. The last four tracks are two new
tracks that are in the ambient style of the PS I Love You album, as
well as two percussive Kid606 remixes of PS I Love You tracks. I
really enjoyed the original 'PS I Love You' and this remix album is a
nice compliment to the original release. 'P.S. You Love Me' is
recommended for those into warm atmospheric click-techno with an
experimental and sometimes playful edge.
After weeks of repeat listens my opinion still stands that
it's a 'nice' release but probably not an essential one. If
I had to choose between recent remix releases i would probably
pick Auch's Remix Tomorrow Goodbye over PS You Love Me.
