Since I rejoined I've been surprised by how OT everything gets- even conversations about the music somehow manage to meander into OT-land. Hence my new topic. Saw the ad for the new VW beetle color 'isotope' the other day (really ugly color, BTW) and it was backed by some autechre tune. Was thinking about this today at the dealership while having my brakes checked. Came to conclusion that those cars having the most synergy with what I consider to be the IDM aesthetic are 1. The Delorean (gull-wing doors & stainless steel are so IDM) 2. The New Beetle (sit inside one for confirmation) Mine, of course, is black. And I don't smoke in it. Any other ideas? I'd think the IDMest cars are those with worn berrings on the crankshaft, running on too little oil, with holes in the exhaust system, unbalanced tires, slipping belts, and all sorts of body creaks. Especially when you shift into gear and the clutch is engaged. who need algorithmic composition when you have a beast like that? -Gil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sorry, pal -- but it's kinda hard to beat a 3-wheeled electric car/bicycle amalgam with it's own pedal generator, that resembles the nose of a space shuttle and is controlled via joystick. m@2zo --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The Volkswagen sirocco. hands down. it's all sporty and slanty but its a hatchback. same engine as the Porsche 944 btw. There's also a problem with the exhaust that makes it sound like complete shit after a few years.

Gosh. Contrary to everything I said about the Nike ad, VW beetles and Autechre are a cool combination. Which tune, do you know? I don't think that ad is playing in the UK, or at least I haven't seen it.

Yes, this *is* hopelessly off-topic, but it's funny :-)

No way dude. DeLoreans always make me think of 80's proto-trance, like the theme from Knight Rider. You have to be on some sort of mission to drive a car like that and make it look good :-)

I like those green ones. As I've never learned to drive I have not been in one, but they are kind of tempting me to take to the road. Have you seen those european super-compact Mercedes? They are designed for just two people, they look like a 'people carrier' with 2/3 of the body missing. There's a lot of them in Amsterdam, where space is at a premium. There's also some weird old cars popular in the UK, like the Reliant Robin and the Trabant, both of which have 3 wheels. They are pretty lo-fi though. Those coloured imacs are totally IDM as well, even though I have always used a PC. For years I went round telling people that computers should look like furniture or hi-fis and they all laughed at me. Well, I'm laughing now! Oh wait, I don't have any shares in Apple. Guess I'm just smiling ironically then. Anig 'totally IDM' Browl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Oh for crying out loud. Everyone knows the only IDM form of transport is London Undergrounds Met line! The mad noises the trains make, the even madder sounds that you hear when the train is about a minute away in north west London - It's all IDM. And if you're lucky, you sit next to me and hear the sweet sounds from my headphones. The Manual album is quite nice. Any opinions on the new Slicker?? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Actually, it's the other way around. Porche build the 944 on a Scirocco frame, put a but-ass-ugly body on it and gave it a VW engine.

I vote for my friends Subaru BRAT. 326K miles on three oil changes. Only that combination plus the small rocks and dried chunks of potato in the hollowed-out muffler can make the IDM sound his does.

As a Green Party member, I find this thread quite objectionable. And anyway, it's bleedin' obvious that *bicycles* are much more IDM than cars, hence Kraftwerk's participation in, and obsession with, the Tour de France. What's the IDMest bike, then?
