I would add the new Beneath Autumn Sky record (hefty) to this list. And of
course theres always the instrumental tracks that come on hiphop 12"s, like
MF Doom's "the Mic", the vocals are great but if thats not your thing then
theres an instrumental.
Rza's ghostdog soundtrack is really good too except for the fact that the US
edition is full of some blang blang (ok they're not that but I just felt
like saying blang blang) songs that aren't even in the film. I assume that
the japanese version has the original tracks but I'm not up for spending
$30.
Also along those lines are some of the Mr Scruff 12s on pleasure records. Oh
yeah, theres always Req who I've heard has a deal with warp now. The cash ep
by pbo on schematic is great too only I don't think you can find that one
all that easily but his dirty dozen cd compiles those tracks.
On a completely irrelevant note. I recently picked up a manchester
compilation from 89 called "North, the sound of the dance underground", it
was mostly acid house stuff by a bunch of no m=names with voodoo ray throw
in to get your attention. Well, anyway when I got home and nerdily looked at
the record I found that most of the no namers were actually songs written by
various members of A Certain Ratio, right on!!! just when you thoought that
I had bought all of the acr records I can find, up pops this one. Anyway,
I'm still looking for that Sir Horatio dub 12 that they put out in 81.
I can't help it, I've got to mention ACR, they rule!!!

See if you can find Bombay the Hard Way : Guns, Cars, and Sitars. Its
instrumental hip-hop whose samples lie in the soundtracks to old 1970's
Indian (Bollywood) films. Its samples are... 'crusty'ish sounding, very
dirty and yet the record has a sense of humor about itself (peep the title
or the names to some of the tracks such as : Punjabis, Pimps, and Playas).
Some of the samples themselves are really silly.. All in all its a very fun,
very mellow record. The Automator threw it together, DJ Shadow did the drums
for some of the tracks.. Its fun stuff. Although someone else recommended
the soundtrack for Ghost Dog (Though methinks they really meant the score,
becuz the soundtrack is a bunch of crappy wu rap, not instrumentals), I
wouldn't recommend that because RZAs beats are pretty clean sounding and not
really gritty per sae, though they are still tight as fuck IMO.
