"the latest" (cd/double vinyl) from slicker is now available in the hefty ordering section. "the latest" is slicker's most diverse and hard-hitting recording to date. it was recorded in the winter of 2000-2001 at hefty and features collaborations with matmos, telefon tel aviv, and the samadha trio's chris case. slicker will be performing for the first time in chicago on friday, june 22nd as part of the museum of contemporary art's yearly summer solstice festival. for more information on slicker, read the newly posted interview in the artists section of the hefty site. also available in the ordering section, the first of two phil ranelin 1970's jazz reissues from hefty, "vibes from the tribe" cd/double lp. those already familiar with tribe records and ranelin's work should be thrilled by the inclusion of alternate versions of the title track, including an 11 minute out take and a restored 8-track version. those not already familiar should take a further look! this album best captures ranelin's willingness to talk artistic chances, as he fuses latin, funk and soul together into a jazz backdrop. "vibes from the tribe" was ranelin's "searching and pleading call for unity, dedicated to Black children of the universe". all the tracks were restored from the original session masters by engineer and tortoise member, john mcentire. remixes of phil ranelin's "the time is now!" and "vibe from the tribe" are already in the works. remix artists include: jan jelinek, el p, kirk degiorgio, beneath autumn sky, morgan geist, prefuse 73, slicker, nobody, micha acher, and telefon tel aviv. an interview with phil ranelin can now be found in the artists section of the site. be sure to check out www.heftyrecords.com for a full update on all the upcoming releases, including an interview with smaze from beneath autumn sky in support of their newly released, "enki-du's mono" cd/vinyl. coming soon: slicker "frustrache" single/ep with remixes and new tracks Hefty Records 1658 N.
