I'd agree somewhat. What this list defines as idm seems to be far too broad
in its sound to be packaged as a single product. But more "boxable" subsets
of idm definitely have and will be commercialized. I think a good example
would be drum n' bass. It has been on commercials and more so as the
background music for many television stations self promotion spots (Cartoon
Network is one example). Oh, and better yet, its played in my sister's
orthodontist office on decidedly non-independent radio. It's in the form of
a beat for David Gray to singsong over, but still...it is played alongside
the likes of Rod Stewart (who rocks! ; my mom made me think so), Sugar Ray,
the Barenaked Ladies (Canada in the house!), and Hootie and the Blowfish.
Now, I know Hootie has been on idm-l since way back in the day...
I'm not going to tackle the comment someone made about commercials being
crappy because I lack specific examples to defend myself, but I definitely
hold a general sentiment of positivity for commercials of late. The beer
commercial "Yeah, we've got a fourth" makes a me laugh.
The new D12 feat. Eminem: The trail off into gibberish hook is such fucking
genius.
ok, i've gotta go, Total Request Live is on. Here I come, Beyonce! I
"...can't handle your jelly cause your body so bootylicious for"
(definitely not me).
