Hello. Some pointless trivia for you all. The limited edition version of Radiohead's Amnesiac (which resembles a library book) refers to the "Catachresis Library". And, as we all know, "Lentic Catachresis" is the name of a track on Autechre's "Confield". -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sure is pointless, since catechresis is just a word like any other (see http://humanities.byu.edu/rhetoric/Figures/CATACHRESIS.HTM ...) Kind of like if Radiohead use the word "slide" anywhere; "ooh, ooh, and as we all know, Autechre had an EP called Chiastic SLIDE!" Ooh! At any rate, considering its definition and the fact that they used it with the word "library," I'd guess it's pretty much unrelated. -adam, whore to himself --- Mark Stevens <mark@headspin.clara.net> wrote:

Yes, because it's *exactly* like that! "Catachresis" is hardly a common word, is it? Of course, I always ensure I slip it (or slide it, if you like) into a casual conversation at least six times a day. I only managed it twice today though.

Hmmmm... what I noticed is that th begining of the first Amnesiac track is very similar to "VI Scose Poise"... Are Radiohead and Autechre the same persons? :) César --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Actually, the Hamlet example at the link below is a terrible example of catechresis then. Words *do* exist for the killing of one's mother *and* brother. Matricide and fratricide, respectively.
