Right. Plaid : Double Figure. Popped it on, and was hooked in a few seconds. Marvellous. One of the tracks even seems to be click based. Well, starts off with some click type rhythms. Recommended for anyone who likes Plaid. Chris Bowden : Beautiful Nasty. Quite lovely. The 4 Hero remix is top! If you liked Time Capsule at all, I'd recommend this. Rufidge Kru : Beachdrifta. Okay, it is Goldie. And, by jove, it's good! The AA side is a bit shite, but, hey, the A side is choice. Herbert : Bodily Functions. No idea. Can't make heads nor tails of it. Might need more time. Nothing instantly grabbed me, but that might be my aging brain having problems trying to be clever. V/VM : Sick Love will tear us apart. Listened to 30 seconds, and turned it off, quite disturbed. Great. ;) If I get through the whole thing, I'll be sure to comment. Slag Boom Van Loon : So Soon 12". Yes, it's a Boards of Canada remix. Yes, it's fantastic. Is that Airwolf? But so is the Four Tet. And the U-Ziq. Don't think I need to recommend this one. Can't wait to hear the Coil remix. I also bought the new Tool. But they're probably too commercial. And have guitars. And a vocalist. Things I'm eagerly waiting for : Kid 606 PS You Love Me, Four Tet and Mira Calix (anyone got a solid release date on this?) Right - Time to check out my Crouching Tiger DVD, eh? -i. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'd say recommended to more or less anyone really - Plaid have passed me by, somehow, so I couldn't really class myself as someone who likes them as such - but what I've heard of Double Figure (the sound clips from the Warp site mostly) I'm very impressed by. I'd recommend a listen unless you absolutely detest Plaid :) BTW, is their other stuff this good? I may have to get some back catalogue if so... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yep. ive got trainer, which is their debut mbuki mvuki (or something to that effect. and very rare it is too, normally) and collected vintage trax as plaid, balil, black dog etc. its trax date from 1989 to 95. the older material is simple, considered, well put together 'intelligent techno' (bah. what a crap label) well the first trax are kind of 'intelligent hardcore', if you will. anyway theres the odd nice synth line here or there, a quirky beat and a dash of offbeat samples (scoobs in columbia) all in all, rather nice. the second disk is newer (92 - 95ish) stuff. initially sort of dense and opaque, but then you get into plaids mindset, where many complex layers interweave with equal prominence, and you get it! rah. this leads to some cracking material (plaid?...;), whirling of spirits is a great peice of music, angry dolphins mutated jungle is notable, too. well anyway if you are looking to buy, id recommend this is the one to get. hope that helps -thomas ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well it's been a verrrrrrrrrrryyyy long time acomin'. Seen the man twice, once a free gig on the South Bank, once with the Time Capsule (full) group at the Jazz Cafe - both London - a stunning player who I wish had a higher profile. Mr Bowden's an essential link (imho) between the Electric Jazz of the 70s (Mwandishi, Miles, Weather Report, etc, etc) and Electronica of the nineties and naughties via his work with 4Hero, Palmskin, etc. Is the album officially out now? All the best Colin. _____________________________ "... and life is a song sung low and cool to rouse the gentle spirit." (Jeff Noon)
