More to enjoy... . B Fleischmann & E*vax split 7" (Audio Dregs) Being a big fan of both producers involved with this 7", I was eagerly anticipating this split and after several release delays it has finally hit the shops. This 2-track ep starts with B. Fleischmann's 'Le Desir' which is right in line with the stylistically with his other releases - a slow building track centered around warm analog synth line with slow plodding percussion and light gurgles, tinkles, and sfx to fill out the sound. E*Vax's addictive 'Water At Our Ankles' features his typically playful intertwining melodies with staggered simplistic percussion. Overall, this is a wonderful split 7" between two produces who excel at infusing sublime etheral melody into playful-poplike structures. Highly recommend for fans of this sound. For more info visit the label website at: http://www.audiodregs.com . Warmdesk: prole drift 7" (Static Caravan) Warmdesk is the guise of Chicago producer Bill Selman and 'Pole Drift' is his first release for Static Caravan. The a-side features the title track, 'Pole Drift,' which is a nice track of dub-tinged electronica with lots of noodling synth. The b-side begins with a short piece of a-musik playful electronics then moved onto the best and last track on the ep ' La Noia.' This is a longer ploding click-dub track with various oscillationa and sfx in the background. Overall 'Pole Drift' is a decent release by Warmdesk for fans of a dubbier raster-noton sound and a nice taster of things to come from him. Look for a forthcoming Warmdesk releases on the Fallt, Aposteriori, and Bip-Hop labels. For more information on Warmdesk visit: http://www.aposteriori.org . Cloinc: porky playground part 1 12" (Sellwell) Cloinc is the collaborative guise of Andre Estermann and Jan Bruhnke (aka Electric Sheep) and this 4-track ep is the first release from that union. The ep starts with the crisp disjointed percussive lines, lush synth beds, and garbeled looped vocals of 'Pixi-Lated Dancing.' Next comes the downtempo 'Punch Card Shuffle' with it's sulty synth beds, meloncholy melodies, and slow plodding percussion. The breath-taking 'Lonely Bits' start off the b-side with it's light poppy new-wave feel - a perfect summer anthem. 'Sandcake' closes the ep with bouncy melodies, bass & percussion over vocal manipulations. Overall a nice ep that goes beyond the 'Autechre-clone' stereotype that many associate with the Musik Aus Strom collective. Recommended. The Sellwell label website is currently under construction at http://www.sellwell.de/ but keep checking back there for the evenutual site release. In the meantime you can hear some mp3 previews of the ep at: http://www.loopnet.de/artists/cloinc/ . Chessie/Computer Soup split 10" (Plug Research) This split ep is numbe five in the Plug Research split 10" series. The a-side features Chessie's contribution, entitled 'Lost Not Found,' in the form of a long track with a slow hip-hip percussion over caustic wailing guitars. About half way through and at the end there are pauses in the guitar wails for some lighter acoustic guitar. The flip side features two tracks from Soup Disk artist Computer Soup. The first track is a rather freeofrm and interesting mix of throbbing experimental ambient electronics and jazz improvizatons. The closing track is similar to the first but with more of a minimal feel - spacious drones and gurgling electronics with mixed with trumpet. This split ep is an interesting ear-bending-abstract addition to the Plug Research 10" series and probably one I wont be listening to as often as some of the other split 10" releases. For more information visit the label website at: http://www.plugresearch.com . D'Arcangelo: zero to zero 12" (Orange) After three-year hibernation, the Southern California Orange label springs back to life with the debut US release for the Italian duo D'Arcangelo. The 'Zero to Zero' ep features eight tracks (making it almost a mini-album) including a remix by Musik Aus Strom artist Andre Estermann. The styles represented on this ep range from the light melodic electronica of 'GoodbyeL and 'Zero to Zero' to the more melodic electro-tinged 'Hersek 66, Finux, Pixor 3, A25, and the Andre Estermann mix of GoodbyeL' to the ambient sendoff of 'Goodbye Credits.' Overall 'Zero to Zero' is a gorgeously melodic release for D'Arcangelo and an impressive return for the Orange label. Highly Recommended. . Ben Nevile: vancouver & fairfield 12" (Context) This debut release for Vancouver-based newcomer Ben Nevile features four tracks of wonderfully smooth melodic dubby tech-house. 'Awshashen' starts the ep with the aforementioned style - smooth melodic dubby tech-house with subtle track changes to keep things interesting. Next comes 'Tip' which is on the minimal-tech side but adorned subtle with dub-reverbs. 'Littlebabies' is a light dub-house track with lush chords and crisp percussion. The ep ends with 'PTR,' a much deeper dub-house track with lush chords punch percussion and a nice jazzy guitar-sounding melody throughout. The 'Vancouver & Fairfield' ep is another nice release for Context and a solid beginning for Ben Nevile.
