appologies to the list, this is not an IDM-making list, one exists on yahoo groups, but its cool to help newbees out, i wish someone had helped me out... Any way, all you pros out there, jump on this thread and help with your advice on with the post. get the most powerfull Mac you can lay your hands on, get an iBOOk. Then pay a Visit to cycling74.com and download a copy of max/msp. After all that, lock your self up for 6 to 8 months and learn max. thats all you need. im a PC user and ive used almost every software ever released. My favourite way of working is synthesising my sounds and setting up dsp paths for sounds in in reaktor, Vaz modluar, Pro 52, tassman, CPS, analogbox and this new synth called Virsyn. after designing my sounds, i sequence them with Softstep or Building blocks sometimes. if i need some traditional sequencing, i use cubase( would love to use logic audio, but it crashes my system, anyways) to write traditional melodies and have everything all nice and synced. Acid comes in handy for timming/pitch correction and abusing its streaching facilities( granulab is great for time/pitch abuse too) now, sometimes if i need more abstract sounds, i process my synced tracks in Wave warp from sounds logical. its a nice app and gives me unexpected results. at this point i have 20 to 24 tracks of audio all synced and working together. Now i start cutting out loops and reprocessing them in audiomulch and many other peices of software. all this time, i try not to fuck up the timming too much otherwise its hard to fit the results back in. right, after all that, my song is done and i need to perform it live. i cut out sections and make loops out of them and load up the loops in buzz and reconstruct the songs exactly. then i use buzz to play live and manipulate my tracks on the fly.im thinking of doing this with that Reason app, but ime getting good at buzz everyday. erm, that all. the end. i hope this helps someone, but the obvious point i was making is, that on a pc, im using so many bits of software and it gets a bit awkward at times. Thats why i want to get MAX/MSP, ive heard my friends do amazing stuff on it and i like the idea that you can go to any level of depth with it. so far ive only dl'ed the manual for it and it looks way too complicated, but if i can have an enviorment that can do what i want it to do, then im all up for it. woops!, gotta go. regards, teardropb icq 55962348 irc #reaktor on DALnet
