This and Moonbuilding have been really great. I like their absorption (absorbtion rather) of J Dilla on stuff like 4am Exhale. There was a time when I would've preferred a new Fehlmann solo album to a new Orb record but their collaboration now is producing great, colorful results. been listening to this with a really critical ear i guess ive been waiting for orb to do something shitty or half assed ever since it thinned down to just the two alx and thomas like how could these two guys do what used to take like 5-10 ppl per album to churn out but this is a great great album, totally orb yet totally exploring new territory, or old territory in a new way really amazing stuff how they took that classic orb sound and took it in such a bold new direction without skipping a beat-- i think this is definitely going to be another cult classic album of theirs its like ambient done right making you say "yeah this is what i want ambient music to be like" and you wonder why the fuck nobody else can seem to pin it down like alx when it just seems to fucking natural and simple for them. i was thinking alot about that, the guy really has an amazing gift to simply not be in a hurry when he's composing, and yet knowing exactly how much extra content to add to keep things interesting, and where to stop adding things. i think he can take just about anything and spread it out across 10 minutes and just make it amazing, i've only the vaguest notion of how he does it. Very excited to get my copy. I ordered a disc, should be arriving sometime next week. I've avoided streaming anything. I am one of the biggest and most loyal Orb fans on this planet and have faithfully bought pretty much everything put out by ALX and friends over the years, beginning in the mid 90s. I can't believe it has been this long. I generally avoid listening to anything until I have my own high quality cut. I then sit alone with headphones on in the dark and try to immerse myself in the experience with no distractions. I'm saving myself for that moment though the temptation to fire up a stream right now is pretty strong. I have noticed this! I’m very image-sound oriented. While listening to the new album, I kept getting sudden bursts of memories and pictures from my life. The associations from those samples dredged up times and places I originally heard them. This album really is swell. I received the new Orb CD and listened to it all weekend. love it. I’m going to play it loud over a funktion one system today while at work. tho one of my favorite artists, I would’ve missed the release if you didn’t mention it Clint. LA is not a very Orb familiar town, where techno seems to have started with post-Homework Daft Punk. Many thanks dude. In 1995 I was given a cassette tape with The Orb on side A and FSOL on side B, changed my life. I still have the tape! I went over to Chicago’s Michigan Avenue Virgin Records in 2002 to catch Alex Patterson do an in-store show, which was a short 30 minute set of playing vinyl, then afterwords spoke to him, gave him a Heavy Petting CD, my music group the time, and he reached into his bag grabbed an Orb vinyl signed it and handed it over as a really thoughtful exchange. There’s my story of The Orb.
