Yes, Section 25 was on Factory. They were well ahead of their time on a number of fronts, despite the fact that they were often written off first as Joy Division ripoffs, then as New Order ripoffs. "Looking from a Hilltop" (I'm surprised at how many people recall the song when I play it for them) and a lot of their other 1983-1984 material is seminal electro, and their 303 work sequencing was widely imitated during the acid house days. Before that, they released a wonderful album called "The Key of Dreams" that predated the whole mid-to-late-90's space rock revival. Much looser, spacier, freer-flowing jams, heavier on bass and guitar. Factory is still dead, but most of S25's back-catalog has been reissued by the English label Les Temps Modernes, including a couple of worthwhile live CDs. Best discs to start with by them would be From The Hip (includes aforementioned "Looking from a Hilltop"), and Deux Ex Machina (some well-worth-having studio outtakes and live tracks from 1983-1985). Seth.

Theres also section25.com, They've got some new songs up there which are pretty good because they sound like old songs :-) From the hip is an excellent lp. I just picked up the Names, Swimming + singles reissue, very good old school manchester factory post-punk sound. ____________________________________________ p l u m b d e s i g n Adesh Deosaran | Information Designer 157 chambers st ny ny 10007 p.212-285-8600 x240 f.212-285-8999 -----Original Message----- From: Seth Robson [mailto:robson23@pacbell.net] Sent: Monday, May 14, 2001 4:47 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Section 25 (was Re: Autechre Show/Russell Haswell) Yes, Section 25 was on Factory.
