Where did all the good stuff go? All the artists who got me into the whole thing have dried up and lost "it". Aphex Twin (stuck up his own ass) Autechre (newer stuff sucks) Squarepusher (new single very commercial) U-ziq (he was good once) Photek (Solaris...negative) Jega (temporarily shines on Geometry) ...I think you catch my drift Since when did static noise become music, huh Autechre? Okay, okay..so you're all gonna flame me now for not "understanding" and it's all "obscure". But that's just bollocks. The reservoir of IDM talent is drying up fast (at least the stuff in the lime-light is anyway). Was there a meeting that I missed? Did everyone sit down one day and decide to stop being brilliant? Or are they just running out of new directions to turn? Somebody please prove me wrong. Show me how the music of this decade is better than the music that came out of the last one. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Have you heard Venetian Snares "Music About My Cats"? An excellent album. Give it a listen. Kind of reminds me of the days when Aphex was an innovator in the early to mid 90's. Plaid. What I´ve heard from "Double Figure" (From Napster, hope these aren´t fakes but I guess the tracks aren´t) is simply gorgeous. Not a single weak track. What about Chris Clarke? lot of people say he´s an Aemitator, but I don´t mind. really? i don't think clarence park sounds at all like Ae. i can see some of the hints of aphex that people were talking about when this first came out, but it sure doesn't sound like autechre to me. i think it's just a good album. alan! np: nothing, but i wish i were listening to the spike 12" on rice and beans. who's this one rumored to be? phonem and someone else i think... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm still not sure whether or not the Double Figure floating around Napster is real or not. At first listen, I thought it was just a very skilled plaid imitation. The rhythms and production seem ghetto compared to their older material. Still, not bad, though. -- - Nintari Man On Mon, 14 May 2001, Michael Scheer wrote:

The deal is that "idm" isn't as artist-centered as some other "underground" genres, like industrial. This isn't really a genre that allows someone to just pick an artist and spend 10 years of their life trying to track down a bajillion side projects that all sound just a teeny bit different. It's more about finding new stuff and seeing what sounds you like, rather than what artists. There's a reason they're mostly anonymous. cheers, /derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- now updated daily --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think their newest album is more static noise than ever before, may I add brilliantly done, even if it was at random as said in the online interview.

yep.

I don't agree, just cause it has taken a turn in direction doesn't mean it is drying up. You either like the direction or you don't, you either go with it, or you don't. Apperently you don't like the direction, which is okay. I don't think it constitutes the well being dry.
quoted 3 lines Was there a> Was there a > meeting that I missed? Did everyone sit down one day and decide to stop > being brilliant?
Since when IDM followed a list of agenda's or rules as to how it was suppose to sound? At any rate, I find that brilliance is subjective, it is dependent upon each individual and what they value most and how they view a person applying that knowledge acquired. Some of my friends believe Pearl Jam is brilliant, which I don't see why, but that doesn't mean I have any right to say they aren't. Who knows, maybe I have my head up my ass and that is why I don't understand why.

They are in the middle of it and you are missing it all.

I hope I just did.

Sometimes music doesn't need to be better to evolve. Why must we all look for the "better" in anything that comes "new". I find that the older I get, the more I appreciate what is out there, maybe my ideals have been diluted, but I don't believe that is the case. I believe that I am opening up to other options, like appreciating what people have to offer based on the fact alone that that is their expression. The only difference between Aphex, Squarepusher, Autechre, and the rest of us who are unrecognized is just that, we are unrecognized and are not in the limelight of it all. If you don't like what you are hearing, write music of what you want to hear, after, that is what Autechre has repeatedly said that they do. They write what they don't hear that they want to hear. And they do it cause they want to, not cause someone wants them too. BTW, isn't that why we should be doing music in the first place, cause we want to and not cause it is what people want?
