Actually, I believe the nord modular that other people have noted spotting
during the shows is the main source of percussion for their live show. I
know it's all over their recent releases, but slight variations are
surprisingly easy to program into percussion patches using the modular,
what with random pulses, noise, and self-modulation workin' on tiny parts
of the percussion.
This came up on the nord modular lists, where it was noted that using the
thing solely for percussion is "weird"... sounds like a good use to me
:D It could also explain why there wasn't a ton of variation
(adding/subtracting modules causes the DSP to be recalculated, creating a
pause) and why the tracks were separated out (loading up different patches
also recalculates the DSP).
Plus when they're playing pre-recorded stuff, they call it a "dj show"
:D I think this was noted earlier on the list too, where they had laptops
and it looked like they were doing non-dj stuff live for a "dj show," but
it was just based on pre-recorded stuff, so they called it dj'ing
I'm anxious to see them here in Minneapolis - the venue seems sold out but
there's tons of "extra" space to chill/hang.
cheers,
/derek
