See I love these devices but: It weighs in at 290g 3/4lb (without batteries) - Thats hardly Is that a Jukebox in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Is anyone else as disappointed with USB for MP3 transfer as me? Filling a device like that would take how many hours? With a battery life of 8hours...mmmm I could listen to maybe 10 CDs? Not this product but related: Nomad 6GB Jukebox thingy has possibly the worst UI I've ever seen, you may load 150CDs in there, but good luck ever finding the track you want. -i __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Personally I use an MP3/CD hybrid player and it works great for me.... My recommendation is to wait a while and see if MP3 really remains the standard for compressed audio before investing upwards of $150 on any kind of permanent MP3 device (which this device supports but nothing else). I agree. the mp3/cd hybrids are quite inexpensive, and they're a lot more convenient than an mp3-only device. You can carry around 10 cds and have your 6 gigs swappable when you're sick of them. Some of the newer hybrids even support cd-rw, and you don't have to go through "uploading," sorting, and configuring - just pop it in and hit play. Hybrids even support folders now, so you don't have to re-record your old napster finds :D cheers, /derek At 07:25 PM 5/1/2001 -0700, you wrote:

Yea... I just got the RioVolt mp3/CD hybrid and its a really great little piece. What good is 6 gigs if the batteries are dead in 3-4 hours? Better solution: get one of these mp3/cd hybrids and bring a CD wallet with you. It also has upgradable firmware so when that next format comes around, this thing will be able to support it. -Aaron ----- Original Message ----- From: "Static Beats" <static@staticbeats.com> Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2001 10:25 pm Subject: Re: [idm] 6 Gig MP3 Player

I bought the archos jukebox and returned it because the maximum volume and bass were too low. Apparently you can solve that by hooking the player to a 20$ boosteroo and using headphones that are known to work well with the archos (there's alot of discussion going on about that at www.funmp3players.com) but I decided against keeping it. Still, at ~230$ after rebate, 6 gigs of mp3s and a device you can also use as a portable harddrive it's an excellent deal. Also, the battery life is 8 hours when playing 128kbps, a little less when playing higher bitrate mp3s. You can also use a bigger laptop drive with it (20gb and 30gb have been successfully used), although it voids your warranty. The firmware is upgradeable so support for new formats can be added by the company if those become popular. The tiny Treo player (www.treoplayer.com) is coming out in June with an originally named price of 400$ for the 6gb version and 550$ for the 20gb version, although it might be lower by the time it comes out because of the recent sharp drop in prices of other HD MP3 players. If you're looking to get an HD based player, this is the one to get. Also scheduled to ship during the summer is the terapin mine player (http://www.mineterapin.com/web_html/product_mine.html) which also lets you record audio, pictures and works as an Internet device. I'm not entirely sure it's not a hoax.
