Just give it time. I remember posting about vladislav delay back when ele came out on sigma, most people seemed to think it beatless nosie worthy of little more than a single listen, but look what happened, soon enough everyone loved his stuff. Ae are dynamic guys, and i have no-dought they are communicated to a different audeince these days. Look who they played with at lovebytes - hecker - chartier - dupree - snd ect... I am glad to see that they have choosen to follow there intersets and not whats going to sell records, but from the way this has been recived I think they will end up selling more records than they expected. hopefully the term idm will finally pass away and we can just think of it in terms of experimental music or what have you. maybe this should be called the warp list.... hehehe. anyways. _____________----______--_______________________ scott_allison multimedia_designer / information_architect mediacentric_group -------------11111————-____————— ++++++ ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] .........................!!!!!!!!!!!!! 00000 ____^^^^^^^^^^ ---------- /////////************************ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i like to think of idm as experimental, the thing that bugs me about most experimental is that the ppl i have seen write it really don't put much thought into it. they just play and call it music. if they do put any thought into it, then that is cool and it will probably actually sound really cool, but I haven't found very much classified as "experimental" that I could actually appreciate. That is what the "I" in IDM to me represents, "intellectual" or "intellegience", that it takes more to create AND listen to then the average genre. anyway, just a thought. Here's where I am coming from... I think it is great. The style should not surprise anyone, haven't these guys consistantly reinvented themselves all along? For me it is very musical. It is minimalistic but distinct. The patterns are absolutely fried. Tasty stuff. i agree with some of the bits you have said, but i do find IDM to be very unique, i guess it does not really mean *Inteligent* + *dance* music :-P i guess idm signifies the term braindance more acurately, music for your brain rather than your feet. if you like experimental music, *read* pushing the envelope in terms of sound synthesis as well as new approaches of composition, join the .microsoundlist on hyeperreal. it is very informative. most of the stuff ive heard from recomendations from there challenges my preception of what kind of sounds and resultant compositions from those sounds can be considered music. microsound keeps me confused to wether the stuff is art, soulfull music or just DSP wankery, and i kind of like that challenge happy tune hunting, regards, teardropb _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yea the microsound list is where i spend most of my time. I have found the discourse to be alot more stimulating and on topic than most other lists. there are very few if any ae posts. But you know the new ae album is increadbly good, probably the best thing those guys have come up with yet. confeild has totally renewed my interest in autecter ten fold. then again I am obsessed with the kinds of sounds and composing styles they are exploring on confield. for anyone else who likes that I really recommend looking into the work of Hecker, and espically general magic. also Gliese cdr on agrolights should not be missed, ricky is a rareity amonst the post ae/warp sounds that seem to be controlling miami. I also saw neeedle and sony mao a bit ago, nice stuff. I trully think the days of idm superstars is coming to a close, now that desktop technology is at a point where we can emulate an entrie studio on a low g4 or celeron pc, if you have the time and creativity you can do many good tings. its really an exciting time to be involved in electronic music. and even better the music industry has no way of getting its greedy hands in the mix, punk rock diy has really helped this whole thing move along. well time for me to go get laid off from work. anyone looking for a talented designer? seriuoslly. -scott I have many aiga and art directors club awards under my belt. _____________----______--_______________________ scott_allison multimedia_designer / information_architect mediacentric_group -------------11111————-____————— ++++++ ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] .........................!!!!!!!!!!!!! 00000 ____^^^^^^^^^^ ---------- /////////************************ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
