I don't know. I mean, I like it - it's playful, and at times beautiful, at times simple. No, it's not another Bola, Boards of Canada, or Jega, but then Jega certainly wasn't another Bola or Boards of Canada.
I mean, we're talking about a label here that, althoug it's been around for seven or eight or more years, they have only released three actual *albums* so far. One was Bola. One was Boards of Canada, in conjunction with Warp. And now we have Alder & Elius. If you're going to bring Jega into this at all, it might be to say that, at times, Alder and Elius seem like a cross between Bola and Jega, but descriptions like that always irritate someone, including me, so I didn't say that.
I guess I would say this: no, Alder & Elius are not Bola, and they are Not Boards of Canada, but they are Skam, and I do think it is a really good album. In light of the recent Bola (Mauver) and Team Doyobi EPs, as well as the most recent Alder & Elius EP, I think this new SKALP fits right in.
I especially liked the opening sample from that great movie "Light Years" - excellent! As good as Jega's sampling from Dune on Intron.ix.
With love,
Adam
