I went with my ladyfriend. It was a bit of a let down, but I suppose that
could have been because I was really tired and didn't get the pickmeups I
had planned sorted in time. And then got ripped off inside at great
expense. Grr. Wouldn't have minded if it wasn't so mashup, but there
really was no option to stand around and pontificate at length. Not that I
would dream of such a thing.
I had not been to Electroworks for years, it is a nice sprawling place but
could have done with better indications of the layout. We missed the main
room for about an hour and a half, so did quite a few others it seems. It
was cheapo subterrania fair, with painted crusty types bowling around. Just
what I had expected really.
The twin played a set that started really well, but then got a bit too
gabba/drill for my tastes and we made an exit before the incredibly packed
room caused too much crush. Richard was walking around quite a bit and a
few people recognised him. I dropped a comment about liking Flex (saw it a
few weeks back at the RA) and he was very nice.
Leila was a big let down. Played a pretty poorly mixed selection of funk
and cheesy tunes. Nothing like Courtesy Of Choice (no bad thing here) but
I would have liked some stuff from Like Weather or at least something of her
own or like it. Ho hum.
Push Button Objects were ok, only saw them in the upstairs room but I think
they played a proper set in the main room too. Quite non-descript. Some
good hip hop here and there and the ocassional dub inclination that never
went anywhere.
Either Req or Yee King played after Aphex in the main room, I am not sure.
Again got a bit intense drilly for me after a while, but some periods of
amen shenannigans gave me a good rudey boogie.
Left at about 3am, feeling a bit tired and old.
