Well, a couple of people have written about this, and it seems that one or two quite like it, while another one or two think it's just your average IDM-type stuff. One person even called it soulless.
I've had it for a few days now and just finished listening to it for the fifth or sixth time, and I have to say that, while pleasant, and I see a very faint similarity to BoC, it's really not all that exciting to me. I guess I'd describe it as music that I probably won't choose to listen to a lot, but if it comes up randomly I'm not going to switch it. Like I said, it's pleasant.
There's a few magical moments here and there, like some of the twisty sounds on #3 (Contra Costa), but when the whole album ends, I find that I wasn't really paying attention and it just kind of leaves me thinking, "oh, did it finish? time to put on the next CD, then..."
It's not bad, it's just not... great. Everything doesn't have to be great, but then I would say that the latest Tortoise isn't great but it's still something I want to listen to again.
I have to learn to review things better than just saying whether or not I would want to listen to it again. OK, here you go: The new album "Parking Lot Music" by E*Vax is kind of like the car ride on the way home from a fun amusement park. You have nice memories and feelings going on, but ultimately, later on, it's not the car ride home that you remember, it's the amusement park itself. It felt to me like "Parking Lot Music" was just the ride home, without much, if any, amusement park stuff in it.
