Excepts from the interview at spaced.co.uk (under Features): --- Not content with producing one of the albums of the year so far, Matthew has also been busy writing a musical manifesto, PCCOM (Personal Contract For the Composition Of Music) that draws parallels with Dogma in cinema. 'It's a bit more liberating than Dogma,' says Matthew matter of factly. 'The basic principles are that you are not allowed to use any sounds that have been used before. So that eliminates drum machines and keyboard presets, you have to generate your own sounds. The sampling of other people's music is also strictly forbidden. When I start a new track I have to have new sounds and these must come from my surrounding environment or wherever I take inspiration from.' --- This may sound like a recipe for cacophony but do not fear - there is a perfect logic to Matthew's madness. 'One of the songs on the album, You Saw It All, features the vocals of part-time Leila collaborator, Luca Santucci. It's about losing your sight and all the percussion that you hear is taken from laser eye surgery recorded in San Francisco.' On another track, Foreign Bodies Matthew has got people to send in sounds of their own bodily functions to his website. 'It was great,' continues Matthew. 'I didn't know what to expect but the results were amazing. People cracking their necks and their knees and what have you. Martin from the band Matmos sent in a sample of his blood going round his body...he's got really funky blood. It's got a really amazing skip in it and what's so exciting is that it is totally unique...totally unique.' --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Heehee... fantastic. When I read the title 'Foreign Bodies' and thought of eg. Martin releasing a record on Herbert's label and Herbert remixing Matmos on 'California Rhinoplasty' I suspected the album concept might be heading towards that of Matmos's latest. Presumably the song about blindness sources the same operation used in Matmos's 'L.A.S.I.K.'
